Her Grace Lady Madam Emily Catherine "Ems" Simpson, 1st Duchess of Llanadda DCM DOF KD BA is an Adammic politician and noblewoman. She was formerly the Leader of the Opposition as leader of the Nuclear So-and-so Party. She later served as Minister of Social Engagement and Joy whilst an MP for the Red Green Alliance. She is also formerly the Office of the Emperor's Director of Communications and she is the current Duchess of Llanadda.
Non-micronational life
Ems Simpson is a graduate of the University of Birmingham with a BA in History and Politics. Simpson served as the chair of English Young Liberals, the youth branch of the English Liberal Democrats, in 2018.
In October 2021, Simpson and her domestic partner Sir Sebastian Bench made two appearances on the BBC One game show, Pointless. On their first appearance, they reached the final two teams. On their second appearance, they were the final team remaining and won the Pointless trophy, but failed to win the £1250 jackpot.
Micronational career
Simpson was introduced to Adam I, Emperor of Adammia through the University of Birmingham Liberal Democrats society. In June 2017, arrangements were made for a territory on the south coast of Dorset to be made an Adammic naval base; Simpson, who lived nearby during academic holidays, became governor of this territory, known as Pererria, as well as the Admiral of the 1st Imperial Fleet and the Navy Chief-of-staff. At around the same time, she was appointed to succeed Sir John Smith as the Emperor's Director of Communications following his resignation from the post.
Later, it transpired that Simpson's term-time housemates were also interested in getting involved with Adammia, so arrangements were made for this property to join. In October 2017, Paternia was created, and the Empire of Adammia Act 2017 made it into into a province; Simpson, as the Duchess of the province, now had a seat on the Ruling Council. Shortly afterwards, she was appointed as Minister of Defence in the provisional Cabinet, intended to serve for three weeks until National Elections are held.
In November 2017, Simpson founded the Nuclear So-and-so Party, and stood as its sole candidate in the November 2017 local elections, being elected as Councilor of Paternia. She then stood in the National Election the following week, but finished in second place behind Sir Alex Helliker, and thus became the Leader of the Opposition.
Simpson left the Navy in June 2018, transferring to be the head of the Adammic Intelligence Service. She served as Councilor of Paternia until September 2018, when the province was dissolved. She thus ceased to be Leader of the Opposition, and temporarily retired from Adammic politics, dissolving the Nuclear So-and-sos in June 2019. However, after joining the Red Green Alliance she was narrowly elected as an MP in the 2019 general election at #3 on the RGA list. She is now a backbench member of the House of Citizens. Pererria was finally dissolved on 1 March 2020, having been abandoned for several years, upon which Simpson was appointed as Duchess of Llanadda, where she lives with her domestic partner, Sir Sebastian Bench KOA.
In the 2020 general election, Simpson was re-elected to the House, and became Minister of Memes in the Second Saunders Cabinet after the RGA formed a coalition government with the Storm Party and the Independent Party. Under her leadership the Ministry of Memes was renamed the Ministry of Social Engagement and Joy.
After the resignation of Lord Billy Thompson as Deputy Prime Minister and RGA leader, Simpson and her remaining RGA colleague, Lady Sophie Thornton, decided to dissolve the party rather than elect a new leader. Now an independent, she declined to run in the 2021 general election, and she is no longer active in frontline politics, although she continues to represent Llanadda on the Ruling Council.
