The 16th Abeldane general election took place from the 21st through the 25th of June 2018, including legislative by-elections to the Reichsversammlung and executive elections to the positions of Vorsitzender and Stellvertreter. The snap elections were called by the newly enthroned Emperor Newton von Uberquie at the request of the governing party, National Federalist Party.

Following the slump in activity throughout the Empire after the April 2018 elections, there was wide dissatisfaction with the current governing coalition, particularly with the Vorsitzender Alejandro Whyatt. Former Emperor Stephen Freayth, who had abdicated back in March 2018, stepped in place and decided to run under the National Federalist Party, thereafter known as Die Rechte after a series of reforms he instituted in the party. Max Pollack was the party's candidate for Stellvertreter. Ava Neasa ran for Vorsitzender under the Abeldane Social Ecology ticket.

The election resulted in a landslide electoral victory for Freayth, winning 91.3% of the popular vote, compared to Neasa's 8.7%. Pollack won all the votes for Stellvertreter and remains the only Stellvertreter to be elected with 100% of the votes. The legislative elections saw only four seats up for election, which were a series of by-elections. All seats were uncontested mainly because of defections of MPs from ALNA to Die Rechte. Die Rechte won the majority of seats in the Reichsversammlung, winning 10 seats in total. The total turnout was 100%, the first and only election where all registered voters voted.

Following the election, Freayth decided to form a one-party cabinet and not continue the coalition with the ALNA. This was the first cabinet since 2014 to have only one-party members in it.

Legislative elections were held on 6 April 2018 and allowed 16 seats of the Reichsversammlung to be elected using closed party-list proportional system with a nationwide list. The Reichsversammlung (Composition) Act 2018 amended the seats of the Reichsversammlung and returned back the appointed seat reserved by appointment of the Monarch and another appointed seat solely for the Ervecysarich. As of now, the appointed seat remains vacant until an appointment is made by the Emperor.

Michael Thomas Brazeau, an NFP candidate for the Reichsversammlung, refused to acknowledge the election results and concede defeat. The Reichswahlkommission, the Abeldane electoral commission, has yet to comment on either Brazeau's decision or any implicit recount request.
