A referendum on the Monarchy was held in the Abeldane Empire on 26 October 2016. The Emperor, Stephen I & II, had decided to hold a referendum on the Monarchy following the events that followed after the resignation of Ned Gunderson and the subsequent disapproval of the actions made by the Emperor. The vote, which allowed registered and non-registered voters to vote, was the last time a nation-wide referendum was held and the referendum passed with 90.2% in favour of supporting the Monarchy.
