The 19th executive election of the Abeldane Empire was held from 28 until 29 March 2019, where both the offices of Vorsitzender and Stellvertreter are up for election. Under the new constitution enacted in 2018, the elections for the executive and legislative were staggered with three months in between. This is the first election since June 2017 that the elections for the executive were held separately or alone. Writs for the election was called by Emperor Newton on 8 March 2019. For the first time since April 2017, no opinion polls were held for this election after L'Sydunche announced that it will stop issuing polls for executive elections.

Both incumbents of the offices, Tarik Kârjasary and Nicholas Kaos, have decided not to run for reelection. Liberty Front leader Edward Daniels was nominated for Vorsitzender alongside his running mate Ashley Jaax for Stellvertreter. This is the first election that the party is participating after Liberty Union was dissolved on January 2019. Die Rechte nominated Nicholas Randouler, who had announced his intention to run back in December 2019, for Vorsitzender whilst a primary for the candidate for Stellvertreter was held between Max Pollack, the Deputy Leader and former Stellvertreter, and Charlotte Katrinsdottir, the Speaker of the Reichsversammlung. Katrinsdottir won the primary and was therefore nominated.

This election will also be the first time since 2016 that the six-month term for both the Vorsitzender and Stellvertreter was reinstated, meaning that whoever is elected for this election will serve for six months. No Vorsitzender since Llewelyn Lawton has served a full six-month term without having an election in between and no Stellvertreter has ever served for a full term of six months (Patrick Renwick holds the longest uninterrupted term for Stellvertreter).

Bakcground

Following the reforms of 2018, it was decided that the term of the Vorsitzender and Stellvertreter were to be extended from four months to six months. The elections for the executive and legislative were staggered in a way that every three months an election would be held alternately between the executive and legislative. Originally, it was planned to implement the staggering on December 2018, instead it was moved to 2019 so that a fresh start of elections can begin. Tarik Kârjasary and Nicholas Kaos were to only serve for three months but their Reichsversammlung counterparts or MPs are to serve for six months.

It was also decided that the executive election was to be held first so that a full six-term Reichsversammlung may occur. Emperor Newton called for the writs of the election on 8 March 2019 and also scheduled that all federal elections shall be held at the last consecutive Thursday to Sunday of the month, with all those elected to their offices starting their terms at the beginning of the next month immediately.
