Abeldane general election, December 2015
The 4th Abeldane general election was held from the 20th to the 25th of December 2015, which saw the positions of Vorsitzender and Stellvertreter elected. This marks the first election where only the two highest government offices of the Empire were elected and the elections for cabinet positions were abolished. Emperor Stephen called for the elections on 6 November 2015 and announced the start of the elections on 20 December 2015, and the 1st Reichsversammlung was dissolved on the 22nd of December.
As it was with any general elections previously held, the Vorsitzender elections were held first which saw Llewelyn Lawton reelected as Vorsitzender for a second term, a feat not held by any candidate since Andrew Janiszewski. The Stellvertreter elections on the other hand saw a tie occur for the first time between Harry Fitzpatrick, of the Abeldane Democratic Union, and Andrew Janiszewski, the former New Democrat Vorsitzender. A vote was held afterwards to determine the winner and Harry Fitzpatrick won over Janiszewski with 2-0 and was duly elected as Stellvertreter.
After the election, Lawton was conferred by Emperor Stephen the title Duke of Creton, in recognition of his services and loyalty to Abelden and the Commonwealth. This was the last election where any person may be nominated by anyone for the election without their consent and the last time where two or more candidates from the same party for a position were in a ballot. The 5-month gap between the last election (July 2015) and this election still remains the longest and the only election where the 6-month rule for general elections were used.
