The May 2019 Abeldane state referendum was a referendum in Abelden asking whether or not the Abeldane Empire should create a new federal state named Excalibur, to be ruled by Shiro Mephistopheles. In total 30 people voted, 14 in favour and 16 against. The referendum failed with 53.33% opposed, resulting in Excalibur not being created.

Background

Discussion on the creation of a seventh federal state in Abelden had been an ongoing topic for some time, with Shiro Mephistopheles, a former Vorsitzender, wishing to establish a state of his own, which would be “an attempt to build a small but high-quality government that Abelden can be proud of”. The Excalibur Referendum Act was presented to and subsequently enacted by the Reichsversammlung on 20 May 2019.

Campaign

There was little active campaigning undertaken in the lead up to the referendum. The main argument for the creation or Excalibur was that it would create a state other than Alenshka which could be active. The main argument against being the Abelden already had 5 other federal states where citizens and activity should be focused, as opposed to in a seventh state.
