HSH The Rt. Hon King Horatio Eden MC, MCP, KOC is the King of the Free City-State of Edenopolis, the former First Minister of Mercia, the Lord President of the Democratic Union of British States, the President of Silofais, the Grand Protector of Arura Novale, the Lord Executor of the Realms of Valdsland and Editor-in-Chief of the Daily Micronational. His Edenopolitical reign began on the 5th of November, 2016. His Mercian party won a general election on the 29th of September, 2016, and he was voted into office on the 1st of October. A decree of the Lords of Mercia implemented an Emergency Government on the 29th of March, 2017, replacing Eden with Palatine-Viceroy Newton von Uberquie as First Minister of Mercia.

He was elected at the Silofaisan Constitutional Convention on the 3rd of June, 2017, to become the President of Silofais.

He was coronated in Valdsland on the 20th of June, 2016, and is the absolute monarch of Valdsland.

He was also the first Mememaster-General of Valdsland's predecessor state, the Federal Republic of Whestcorea, by virtue of being the former leader of the Party Party.

He is also the former Chief Minister of the Principality of Beacon City.

He campaigned for the Democratic nomination for the 2020 United States presidential election but lost to Joe Biden.

Political career

Micronational

Whestcorea

Eden's brother, Jackson Eden, then Chief Ambassador for the Universal Triumvirate, informed Horatio of the existence of the Triumvirate and of micronationalism as a whole. While the latter Eden elected not to join the Triumvirate, he expressed an interest in micronationalism in general, and, along with Bob Christ and Bwnpai who would become the second and third founding fathers of Whestcorea, framed the Constitution. The document was written over a period of three days, and took a further seven days for Eden to get all of the necessary members of the public to ratify before the Republic was established.

Upon Whestcorea being ratified into existence, Eden appointed himself Mememaster-General of the country, effectively giving him leadership status over the Congress, then the only house of the unicameral legislature the Constitution had created. He alone was responsible for a huge majority of all legislation passed in this first Congressional session, and presided over the creation and subsequent splintering of his party, the Party Party, following a drive toward multi-partisanism. Regardless, Eden maintained a majority of the Congressional seats and was able to continue producing legislation, which went largely unchallenged.

Following the passage of his Seating Act, the number of Congressional seats was collapsed from eleven to eight. This, under the terms of the Act, required a federal election, in which Eden led the Party Party to another majority. His party attained 50% of the seats, giving him the Mememaster-General's seat in Congress for a second term of four months until March 2016.

His second and third terms were decidedly less populous with acts as the legislature gradually lost interest, culminating in him passing the Whestcorean Appropriations Act which made the country a territory of the Universal Triumvirate; however, following sudden public backlash, a referendum was held, invalidating the Act's passage.

Foreign policy

Unlike the politics of his brother's former nation, Eden has a very internationalist view regarding foreign policy. This is indicated by his decision to join both the Nollandish Confederacy and the United Micronations in despite of a series of concerning events in the latter organization, mostly propagated by internal conflict. He was elected MCP for Whestcorea in a Whestcorean by-election run by the Nollandish Electoral Commission, and is responsible for framing a bill posed to the Confederal Parliament formalizing bill formats.

Economic policy

Eden's economic policy was aided greatly by input from Vice Mememaster-General Bob Christ. The Whestcorean Mint, under Eden's supervision, minted S$70 during the period of its existence.

Domestic policy

Little is known of Eden's attitudes regarding foreign policy. Despite two generic pieces of legislation establishing the military and law enforcement, there is yet to be any firm legislation regarding other domestic affairs, such as naturalization, and there is no set-in-stone penal code yet to be published.

Beacon City

Eden was elected leader of the Beaconite Lighthouse Caucus on the 24th of November, 2015 by default after none of the other three members of the party decided to run. On the 29th, he ran against Social Democratic Party candidate Thomas Cassidy for the Chief Minister position, winning by five votes to three and forming a cabinet.

Paravia

Eden was appointed Chief Ambassador for Paravia on the 28th of November, 2015.

Noland

Eden ran for office in the Nolandish Congress and was awarded a seat in both the legislative and judicial branches of the Nolandish government on the 18th of March, 2016.

Having previously expressed interest in forming an opposition party to the Monarchy Party, Eden formed the Democratic Justice Party, formed on a platform of separating the Prince of Noland from Congress, broadening the power of the Supreme Court, and democratizing Noland as far as possible. In response, the Monarchy Party was disbanded and both the Prince and his brother joined the DJP, with Congressman Stephen Wang apparently slated to join as well.

Macronational

United States

Eden announced on the 10th of November, 2016, that he would be seeking the Democratic nomination for President of the United States. On 6 June, Joe Biden passed the 1991 delegate threshold to become Democratic nominee, with Eden not receiving a single vote. If he were elected, he would have been the second person to hold the office to never have held prior elected office nor to have served in the military after current President Donald Trump, and the first person to have held the office not born in the United States.
