The Speaker of the House of Representatives is the presiding officer of the House of Representatives, the currently only chamber of the National Council, the federal legislature of the Democratic Union of British States. As the presiding officer, the Speaker, along with the Speaker pro tempore, has the authority to change and amend the agenda for meetings of the House, eject unruly members, and set standing orders which determine parliamentary procedure.
The Speaker is the highest authority in the House, and is elected by a majority of the membership. The Speaker is intended to recuse themselves from political matters when in the chair, but as a Representative they have a right to vote on all motions, substantive legislation and other such matters in the same way as other Representatives.
