The Secretary of State of the Democratic Union of British States is a position within the executive branch of the government of the Democratic Union of British States. The Secretary of State is second only to the Lord President in terms of diplomatic seniority, and following the successful confirmation on the 17th of February, 2017 of Lord President Horatio Eden's nominee for the post, Henry Twain, diplomatic matters are, at least in so far as government policy is concerned, to be delegated to the authority of the Secretary of State in practice.

The Secretary of State is nominated to serve by the Lord President of the Democratic Union of British States; however, pursuant to the Citizenship Act, the Lord President's nomination must be confirmed by the House of Representatives of the National Council. On the 17th of February, 2017, this occurred for the first time when the House of Representatives moved to confirm the nominee of Lord President Eden, Henry Twain, who was sworn in on the same day.

Avro Keatings was confirmed as Secretary of State on the 13th of April, 2017, following the announcement of the resignation of Secretary Twain after the latter's ascension to the position of Vice-Chair of the Grand Unified Micronational. Twain would later become Acting Chair.
