The Abeldane Empire held its second general election between 22 February and 1 March 2015. All government offices (head of government, deputy head of government and cabinet ministers) were elected. The main contest was for the premiership; Andrew Janiszewski of the New Democratic Party (NDP) was re-elected in a landslide against Bosmanish Minority Party leader Paweł Sadowski and GOP candidate Michael Thomas Brazeau, who came in last in the premiership race but won in the contest for the position of Deputy Prime Minister against sitting Deputy PM Damian Billbrough.
Former Prime Minister Donald West won every one of the cabinet positions, and so Emperor Stephen intervened and appointed the cabinet ministers himself.
Aftermath
Sitting Prime Minister Janiszewski formed the Second Janiszewski Ministry, the third overall imperial ministry.
Crisis
A crisis unfolded in the Empire when the elected Deputy Prime Minister, Michael Thomas Brazeau, made incendiary comments in a Facebook post. Prime Minister Janiszewski attempted to remove Brazeau from office, an act that is constitutionally barred in the Empire, as the Deputy PM does not serve at the PM's command. Emperor Stephen then removed Janiszewski, replacing him with the second-most voted candidate in the election, BMP leader Paweł Sadowski on 4 March 2015. Following this, Conservative Party leader Damian Billbrough resigned from his government posts and renounced his Abeldane citizenship, a move many citizens mirrored, including Sadowski himself. Vaughan Smith then became acting Prime Minister, but the Emperor abolished the position the following day, hoping to regain the people's confidence. Finally, the Emperor appointed Donald West as Prime Minister.
