The Imperial Navy was the naval warfare branch of the Austenasian Armed Forces, the national military of the Empire of Austenasia. It existed in two iterations, with the original Imperial Navy founded on 11 October 2009 along with the Austenasian Armed Forces as a whole, but dissolving on 8 March 2010. The second Imperial Navy was established on 8 March 2015 by Parliament, with numerous differences from the first, but dissolved on 11 February 2020.
History
The Imperial Navy was established on 11 October 2009, but as the Empire had no coastlines, rivers or lakes it soon fell into inactivity. With the outbreak of the Austenasian Civil War, the Imperial Navy was disestablished on 8 March 2010 and its functions transferred to the Austenasian Army, but the Monarch continued to hold the title Grand Admiral of the Imperial Navy until August 2013.
On 8 March 2015, exactly five years after its dissolution, what was formerly known as Legio I Virginia was separated from the Austenasian Army to re-establish the Imperial Navy by an Act of Parliament, albeit with numerous differences from the original. Based at New Richmond, this new Imperial Navy was dissolved on 11 February 2020 upon the Secession of New Virginia
Command structure
Although overseen and funded by the Ministry of Defence, the Imperial Navy fell under the command of the Chief of Naval Operations, Vera Hewitt. While the Chief of Naval Operations had almost total administrative control, he was appointed by and accountable to the War Council, and the Imperial Navy would have been ultimately directed by it during wartime.
