Thanasia (sometimes locally spelt Thanesia) was a Town of the Empire of Austenasia. During its tenure, it was the smallest and least populated Town in the Empire. It consisted of a section of a three-story house, comprising two bedrooms and part of a kitchen.
Thanasia was home to Countess Eritoshi of Memphis, the former Prime Minister of Austenasia. Following on from discussions which began on 10 May 2013, the territory over which her bedroom is situated was annexed to Austenasia on 14 May by the Fifth Imperial Decree of Jonathan I as the new Town of Thanasia. Her bedroom being on the top floor of a three-story house, this also annexed the bedroom of her sister Imogen (who was appointed Baroness of the new Town) and part of the kitchen of the house; the three rooms are connected by a staircase situated in the United Kingdom. The Countess was appointed Acting Representative of Thanasia (being elected Representative in November later that year). The Thanasia Act 2013, passed ten days after Thanasia was annexed, ratified the Imperial Decree and consolidated Thanasia as a Town of the Empire.
In the May 2016 Austenasian local elections, Eritoshi did not stand for re-election as Representative. Her sister Lady Imogen succeeded her, adopting Lady Strawberry as a pseudonym.
On 14 June 2017, three towns - Zephyria, Porthbokon, and Thanasia - were, in an unprecedented move, unclaimed by Parliament. Thanasian land was ceded absolutely back to the United Kingdom. By this point, the enthusiasm of being part of Austenasia when the Town was founded in 2013 had somewhat faded, and after Eritoshi's retirement from politics it was considered time to dissolve Thanasia.
Thanasia was represented by Lady Strawberry in Parliament as its Representative. Since the minimum number of residents required for a Town Council to be formed is three, administrative decisions were made by a consensus of both members of the population of Thanasia. Where the two residents could not agree on a matter, the Aurora, Thanasia and Sabovia Act 2016 (passed 30 January 2016) allowed their father, Mr G. Easton - a non-residential Austenasian subject living in the house Thanasia is a part of but not in Thanasia itself - to cast a deciding vote.
