Christina I & II (Christina Hamilton Nowell, also known as Christina I[b]) is the current reigning Summi Imperatoria[1] of Cycoldia, which she founded on 6 November 2018, and the Cycoldian Imperium. She is an intermicronational politician, herald and businesswoman, as well as a former patroller at MicroWiki and a former moderator at MicroWiki@Discord.
She was both a guest and a co-host of the micronational podcast MicroRamble, appearing in 4 of its 8 episodes. She is the editor-in-chief of the Grandeur Print, a Cycoldian-based newspaper, published on Cycoldia's official website. She is the chairwoman and owner of Empreton Holdings, the mass media company that operates the Grandeur Print, as well as several other media ventures. She was formerly the Public Relations Secretary for Statistic-Dime until her exit from the company, when she joined DSD Statistics. On 19 January 2022 she was re-employed by Statistic-Dime in her former role as Public Relations Secretary and became a member of its Board of Directors until her resignation from all positions on 29 January 2022.
Christina I & II graduated from the Prezan Military Academy on 15 July 2021 as valedictorian of Class 001 of the Academy for Basic Curriculum.[2] She was awarded the Attendance Award, Good Conduct Ribbon, and the Professional Development ribbon for her time in Prezan, graduating as a Cadet Corporal and Class Leader of Class 001. On 18 August 2021, a day after gaining membership, she became the Empreton Pursuivant of Arms of the Academy of Arms. She was later promoted to Empreton Herald of Arms and was made an Officer-in-waiting.[3]
Personal life
Christina I & II was born on 6 May 2005 in Denver, Colorado. At a young age her parents divorced and moved to different states, leading to her place of residence frequently changing until eventually both of her parents moved to and settled in Houston, Texas. She came out as transgender on the 26 September 2019, later becoming an advocate of LGBTQ+ Rights. Christina I & II went to high school in Houston, Texas, living in either the Royal Palace, Capital District or Pine Palace, Pine District at any given time. She has publicly stated her intent to attend university in the United Kingdom rather than the United States, even planning to fully immigrate in the future.
Heraldry
Christina I & II joined the Academy of Arms on 17 August 2021, becoming its Empreton Pursuivant the next day. She worked on multiple commissions for the academy, later being promoted to Officer-in-Waiting of the Academy of Arms and Herald of Empreton. The latter position was later abolished by dictate of the Marshal of Arms, simplifying her title to Herald, in which capacity she has continued to work on academy commissions. She has also served as the Imperium Herald of Arms of the Joint Heraldic Authority since 12 May 2022, being one of the Heralds of the Authority. She has designed coats of arms for members of the Royal House of Nowell, the coat of arms of the Grand Republic of Cycoldia and its various subdivisions, as well as its members of the nobility. Finally, she is a member of the Heraldry Society, a British registered educational charity founded by John Brooke-Little.
Politics
Christina I & II is a vocal advocate of her political ideals, among them being supporting a Constitutional Monarchy, LGBTQ+ Rights and the legal protection of people with mental illnesses. She has cautioned against an unconstitutional monarchy in modern times, as well as against the concept of an American Monarchy, believing "nobody would support it, and it would crumble." She has expressed support for the reign of Michael I of Romania, calling him "a man who led his country through one of its hardest times in history, and tried to salvage what it was in the end"[4] She has publicly endorsed the British Liberal Democrats, criticizing the Conservative Party's policies and track record while alleging that the Labour Party is anti-LGBTQ+ and comparing them to the Conservatives. She has denounced Kier Starmer and Rishi Sunak for their positions on the Scottish Gender Recognition Bill.[5]
Religion in politics
Christina I & II has many times expressed her stance that religion in politics is highly inappropriate and spoken against the United States' Republican Party policy of perpetuating Christianity in the political process. She was the author and main champion of the Religious Extremism Act within Cycoldia[6] which criminalised religious leaders telling their congregants to commit crimes, citing it as "Religious Incitement." It also clarified the legal protections of religious organizations, suspending their Third Amendment Constitutional guarantees if they "control or limit someone’s freedom of expression, someone’s basic human rights, or [impose] any policies of the religion that may injure or cause harm emotionally to its own members or people outside of the religion."
Politics in the United States
Christina I & II has leaned towards the Democratic Party throughout her life, although becoming increasingly more critical of them over time due to their economic policy and hesitancy with progressivism. She has described herself as an "extreme progressive", separating her social advocacy from her economic positions. She has said of the American economic model that "capitalism hasn't failed, the government failed to regulate it", believing in a philosophy of regulation to remedy inequality. She has called the Texas GOP a pro-fascist and anti-democratic organisation,[7] describing Governor of Texas Gregory Abbott as "insurmountably horrendous" and comparing his policies to those of George Wallace's pro-segregation governorship in Alabama.[8] She has called the United States Supreme Court the "enemy of the people" for their ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health[9] and endorsed Beto O'Rourke for Governor of Texas in the 2022 Texas gubernatorial election.[10]
Micronational career
Christina I & II has held a variety of offices in a number of micronations, however her primary focus has firmly remained on Cycoldia since its founding. She was a member of the MicroWiki Community from late 2018 until her departure in late 2023, during which time she was an attendee at the 2019, 2022 and 2023 MicroCons. She has also been appointed to several intermicronational posts, including Patroller at MicroWiki, Moderator on MicroWiki@Discord, Secondary Delegate for Lytera in the Grand Unified Micronational and the Cycoldian Delegate to the YAMO Federation. During the 2021 December Election, she ran for Chair of the Grand Unified Micronational with Amelia Banks as her running mate. She would go on to place fourth and resign from her position as Delegate just two weeks later upon the appointment of Abrams Wiucki-Dunswed as Supreme Justice, being quoted as saying:
I cannot applicably serve as a representative to a body which shoots itself in the foot every step it takes.
— Christina I & II, 5 January 2022
Cycoldian Imperium
Christina I & II founded the Cycoldian Imperium on 28 February 2021 by issuing Imperial Order 2.7,[11] placing all micronations under her reign as monarch into the authority of the Cycoldian Crown and General Assembly. Full Members of the Imperium include Cycoldia, Jockromasa, Lur, Dathuria and Sequeria, while Altearn is the sole Partial Member. Ela'r'oech is the only undisputed Former Member of the Imperium, however the status of the UKCL and its colonial possession Lacia depends on one's recognition of Arthur's claimed position as King of Creek and Lake, which, if legitimate, would grant the UKCL independence. She designed the colonial ensigns of the members of the Imperium personally to the criteria of Chris Ramsay's heraldic reform, which would later be adopted throughout the organization.
Cycoldia
Christina I & II founded the Grand Republic of Cycoldia as an absolute monarchy on November 6, 2018, being elected Summi Imperatoria by the Council of Imperator, a defunct body meant to facilitate elective royal succession before the Succession Act of 2022, which implemented a hereditary system[12]. She later authored the first Constitution of Cycoldia, establishing the General Assembly and reforming the government's structure into a constitutional monarchy. She sat Chief Justice of the Supreme Court during the Trial of Gavin B, the first court case held in Cycoldia, continuing to hold that position since. She has served as the Member of the General Assembly for the Royal Seat, a seat legally guaranteed for the monarch, since the institution's creation.[13]
