The Prezan Military Academy (Prezan) is a private military academy in the Commonwealth of Dracul. It was developed in late 2020, then launching its first class in 2021 as an institution for micronationalists in militaries wishing to improve upon their military skills and knowledge. In 2022, Prezan was restructured as a ten-week degree institution. Today, Prezan is the largest functioning military institution in micronational community, awarding nearly 8 degrees annually adding to its worldwide alumni base of approximately 25.

History

Founding

Prezan was founded on 2 December 2020 by Connor Modena and co-founded by Scott Jeanes. The two combined their macro-military experiences together, to create the idea of a micronational military institution, that would train in live online classes, micronationalists who wished to improve their micronational militaries. Prezan's first class had a total of 6 students, who attended a live, weekly class and graduated on time together.

Connor Modena served in the United States Marine Corps as a Lance Corporal, seeing combat as a combat engineer overseas. Scott Jeanes served in the United States Army, who served in infantry and saw action on the borders of the United States during the migrant crisis. Later staff members, including Stephen Luke helped contribute to the academy, with his experience in the United States Coast Guard, where he served as a public affairs member in the Auxiliary. Bruce Cooper was initially hired as the curriculum coordinator, organizing powerpoint presentations for in-class use, but later earned his way up to Commandant.

Academics

The curriculum of Prezan is based off United States Military Education, which can be found within many U.S. based military academies, including Westpoint and high school JROTC organizations. The curriculum educates cadets on how to properly serve as a leader, the courtesies expected of serving a military, such as proper title usage, and the history of how militaries formed around the world.

Basic Education

Cadets undergo a rigorous 5 week program, which requires a 90% passing rate on their final exam. Cadets are required to begin the academy in the basic military skills course, which consists of the following classes:

  • Military Knowledge
    • Regulations, appointments, promotions, demotions, awards and decorations
  • Customs and Courtesies
    • Rank structure, proper title usage, respect, how and when to salute, and reporting to Officers
  • Responsibilities
    • Guard duty, general orders, leadership, authority, military time, and phonetic alphabet and numbers
  • Listening and Cooperation
    • Listening and observing, hearing versus listening, observation, evaluating, and communication
(COL. Stephen Luke giving lecture on the subject of maps and navigation)

Advanced Courses

For cadets who graduate from the basic skills course, an additional 5-week program is offered, which includes the following classes:

  • Firearms Safety
    • Firearm definitions, safety rules, range rules, and the 10 commandments of shooting safety
  • Marksmanship Fundamentals
    • Parts of a rifle, firing positions, eye dominance, aiming, sights, zeroing rifles, and scoring
  • Maps and Navigation
    • Type of maps, map sizes, latitude and longitude, marginal information, symbols, contour lines, and elevation
  • Leadership Principles
    • Responsibility, teamwork, setting examples, training, orders, and qualities of a leader

Student Life

Prezan Cadets are one of the most well appreciated group of military micronationalists, since they seek to improve upon their military skills, especially for those without macro-military experience and education. Prezan Cadets are required to attend weekly classes (if in a live virtual class) and can study at their own pace throughout the week. For those in the independent study class, they are expected to review the curriculum without assistance and be prepared the following week for exams covering the previous week's lesson.

Graduation Rate

As of 2023, Prezan has an 88% graduation rate, leaving a 12% dropout rate. Prezan has made it their mission to inform all potential cadets that attending class and completing exams on time is required. Those who are unable to dedicate time to the academy are asked not to apply, or are expelled from the academy.

Notable Alumni

72% of Prezan's Alumni are non-Draculian, which shows a track record of outside micronations utilizing Prezan as a first choice for military education. The main reason for this is due to the lack of military education institutions within the microsphere. Many of the alumni are also notable figures within the micronational community.
