An election was held from 10 June to 1 July 2019, to select a new Chair of the Grand Unified Micronational. The election was announced by Chair Adam I of Adammia, the incumbent chair. The election was won by Bradley, Duke of Dullahan.
Background
Procedure
The Charter of the GUM provides that "The Chair shall be elected every six months".[1] Pursuant to this, the Chair is, by norm rather than specific policy, required to announce the opening of nominations within a reasonable time before the six month period is up.
GUM Chair Emperor Adam I of Adammia announced the timetable for the election during the Grand Unified Micronational's Quorum of Delegates session on the 19th of May, 2019. Nominations for the chairmanship will formally open on 10 June 2019, close on 17 June 2019, voting for candidates will open on 24 June 2019 and the elected chairman will take office on 1 July.[2]
Any delegate to the GUM from a full member state may nominate themselves to run for the Chairmanship, provided they are not "already running for another post within the organization, such as the Supreme Court or another bureaucratic agency within the GUM".[3] They may, however, "if they have been nominated to one of these offices... decline and be considered eligible to run for the post of Chair".[4]
Nominations
Emperor Adam I of Adammia was entitled to run again; an Adammic campaign for the chairmanship would have been, however, the last he would be allowed to undertake under the GUM charter, which precludes a chairman from serving in office more than "three terms in succession".[5] Emperor Adam announced he would not be seeking re-election.
On 1 June 2019, Higher Lord Nicholas Randouler of Posaf and King Thomas Bainbridge of Hrafnarfjall publicly announced they would be running for the chairmanship.[6] Empress Ashley Jaax of Iustus remarked that she would be running but will formally announce on 10 June 2019.[7]
On 2 June 2019, Emperor James II of the Aspen Empire and President Horatio Eden of the Amissopian Federation publicly expressed interest in running, though neither have officially announced their candidacy.[8] The Essexian delegation also used this time to withdraw from consideration.

Chairman Bradley, Duke of Dullahan announced that he would be nominating his electoral running mate, Elizabeth Lewis, to be Vice Chair following his election victory.
