An election took place from 25 December 2019 to 1 January 2020, to select a new Chair of the Grand Unified Micronational. The election was announced by Chair Bradley, Duke of Dullahan, the incumbent chair. The election saw King Thomas Bainbridge elected as Chairman, with 17 (58.6%) of the votes.
Background
Procedure
The Charter of the GUM provides that "The Chair shall be elected every six months".[1] Pursuant to this, the Chair is, by norm rather than specific policy, required to announce the opening of nominations within a reasonable time before the six-month period is up.
GUM Chair Bradley, Duke of Dullahan announced the timetable for the election during the Grand Unified Micronational's Quorum of Delegates session. Nominations for the chairmanship will formally open on 11 December 2019, close on 18 December 2019, voting for candidates will open on 25 December 2019 and the elected chairman will take office on 1 January.
Any delegate to the GUM from a full member state may nominate themselves to run for the Chairmanship, provided they are not "already running for another post within the organization, such as the Supreme Court or another bureaucratic agency within the GUM".[2] They may, however, "if they have been nominated to one of these offices... decline and be considered eligible to run for the post of Chair".[3]
