Electoral Rules

States and Devolved States are split into two roughly equal voting districts, after which representatives are elected according to the First-past-the-post voting system.

Many criticised this electoral method before, during and after the election. States are not equally populated whatsoever, granting citizens in certain areas (especially Durham and East Sorrenia) far more electoral power.

As a result of this electoral system, The New Monarchists and Republicans comfortably became the two largest parties, both of whom source much of their power from areas that are disproportionately benefited by the state representatives system.

Electoral Method

Despite criticism of the electoral method, results were largely proportional. Both the New Monarchists and Republicans received around 1/3 of the vote, and subsequently 1/3 of Council seats. Similarly, the Old Monarchists won 20% of the vote and 19% of the seat share.

The DRF were able to win two seats despite winning just 5% of the vote.

The NDLP were heavily critical of the result in that the electoral method disadvantaged them most. The Party leader subsequently stated "our primary goal is now electoral reform".

Had representatives been chosen proportionally, two seats would have been allocated differently; the NDLP would have received three in total, while the New Monarchists and DRF would have won one fewer each.

Voting patterns strictly followed geographical boundaries in Sorrenia.

The New Monarchists - as expected - received significant support from districts in the City of Durham and to the North, especially towns such as Sacriston and Stanley. Such areas remain strongly loyal to the King, whose Royal Palace is located in Sacriston.

The New Monarchists also received votes from Southern Sorrenia and Bernicia, although not enough to win a seat in said areas.

The Republicans

The Republicans received most of their votes (>60%) from Eastern Sorrenia. In areas such as Sherburn and Bowburn, they received 80% of the vote while the New Monarchists received just 10% in each.

Although they won a representative in Bernicia the state is deeply fragmented and they won just 30% of the vote.

Outside of their core states, The Republicans receive little support, averaging 10-15%.

Old Monarchists

Whereas the New Monarchists do best in loyalist towns, the Old Monarchists tend to succeed in rural areas, such as Northern Bernicia, Amon Lasgalen and Ertawa. They were also able to win the southern seat of Lancaster - which has many settlements - although several statisticians state that they did so because of the higher electoral apathy in the area.

Other than such areas, the Old Monarchist support is completely lacking; they did not run candidates in primarily Republican areas and received an average of 10% in those states won by New Monarchists.

Although the NDLP was able to win 13%, this vote was spread out mostly evenly throughout the entire country, and so they were unable to reach the threshold of winning a seat in most places.

They were successful in winning one of the two seats in University Town, likely due to the liberal, centre-left leaning of many students who live in the state.

Amon Lasgalen also elects two representatives

The DRF won both seats comfortably in Dradelia, the only two seats they ran in.

Although they won the entire state, their support is entirely centred around the settlements of Easington, Easington Colliery and Peterlee. Horden mostly voted for The Republicans while the various hamlets in the west of Dradelia voted for the New Monarchists. Aggregating this, the DRF was able to win 80% of the state's vote.

As a result of the DRF's victory, The King and his Council declared a renewed effort to defeat dissident Dradelians as well as remaining Socialist League forces, both of whom inhabit the state. Republicans used the result as a vote of no confidence in the King, urging him to negotiate with the rebels.

The Libertarians only ran candidates in three states and were unsuccessful in two. They were, however, able to reach the threshold for victory in Southern Amon Lasgalen, winning the seat with just 27% of the vote, as the state was almost equally divided between the Libertarians, New Monarchists, Old Monarchists and the NDLP.
