The National Guard (Sabian: dogasennañ; commonly known simply as sennañán, "the Guard") is the sole organized military unit of the Kingdom of Sabia and Verona. It was founded in 2017 as a merger between the two remaining branches of the former Royal Armed Forces; the Royal Auror Corps and the Royal Aeronaval Service. The National Guard fulfills both military and civilian security jurisdictions; it can therefore be categorized as a military police force.

The National Guard reports to the Defense Division, headed by the Secretary of Defense (presenty Suipom Goyo); the Commander-in-chief of the National Guard is the King of the Valtirians, while the professional military chief of the Guard is Chief of Defense (sennañkurág). The current Chief of Defense is General Mirna Baudelaire.

The Sabioveronese military historically used a penal conscription system, in which inmates are recluted for certain tasks in the military. This system was abolished in 2017. The National Guard does not have nuclear, chemical or biological warfare capability. It has not established any partnerships with other regional or national military powers as of yet.

History

Juclandian rule

Before the creation of the SVRAF, Sabia and Verona was under protection of the Royal Army of Juclandia by law, although the Juclandian armed force never set foot in Sabioveronese soil. The Royal Armed Forces were officially created as the Sabioveronese Regional Armed Forces through two different Legislative Bills, bill #027 of February 2013 and bill #033 of April 2013, both uniting the already existing Gendarmerie, created when Sabia and Verona was proclaimed a Juclandian overseas territory in October 2012 and the People's Regional Land Army, created by King Ciprian of Juclandia in December 2012[1]. As well, the bill #029 that created the People's Navy is considered part of the foundation of the SVRAF. The Armed Forces of Sabia and Verona were to serve and protect the Sabioveronese people in times of peace and truce and defend the regional territory and integrity in times of war and conflict.

In March 2012, Prime Minister Osez Kóvérsz commissioned the creation of 9 ships that would become the People's Navy. By April, 2012 the People's Navy of Sabia and Verona counted with over 20 ships, with Noa Dargany as Admiral of the Navy. Later that same month another commission, this time from the Legislative Courts would mandate the creation of the People's Air Force and the elaboration of at least 15 aircraft. The aircraft created initially all were Weinstein models, but soon a Sabioveronese manufacturer, Starlynn would design its own planes that were adopted by the Air Force.

Federation and independence

When Sabia and Verona became province of the Federal Union of Juclandian Lands, the Regional Armed Forces became the Royal Armed Forces and swore loyalty to the new Sabioveronese monarch, Isadora of Annenak. On 26 March 2014, Queen Isadora approved the renaming of the Royal Gendarmerie to the Royal Auror Corps.

The National Guard was created in June 2017 as a merger between the Royal Aeronaval Service and the Royal Auror Corps, themselves mergers of four previous military branches of the Sabioveronese armed forces: the Royal Land Army, the Royal Navy, the Royal Air Force and the Royal Gendarmerie. The oldest of these was the Land Army, formed in 2012.[1]

Composition

The National Guard is divided into companies (rañi), each made up of guards (sennagi) and commanded by a captain (rañkurág). The Chief of Defense (sennañkurág) is responsible for overseeing all military matters in the force and standing atop the military hierarchy. There are currently two companies in the National Guard:

  • 1st Company Queen Isadora (rañ 1n "rai isadora")
    • Commanded by Captain Bo Karjasari VS
  • 2nd Company King Ciprian (rañ 2n "rai kibrián")

The current Chief of Defense is General Mirna Baudelaire RS, since 2017.
