History |
The Northern Division (Sabian: akitrañ) is one of the divisions (ministries) that make up the government of Sabia and Verona. It deals with matters pertaining to the government's outreach in and coordination with the Northern regions of the Kingdom (Sabia, Verona and Lycem), which have been virtually inaccessible to the Valtirian state ever since the execution of the Haronos Plan in 2015.
The division was formed in May 2020, in the 13th government formed by Apollo Cerwyn, as a result of the inquiry and subsequent report elaborated by the special parliamentary commission on the status of the Northern regions,[1] the formation of which was in turn was sparked by the publication in 2019 of an op-ed by then-secretary of education, Soraya Hreti, on The SiV Phonograph.[2][3] Hreti is the first and current Secretary of Northern Affairs, appointed by prime minister Apollo Cerwyn in his second cabinet.[4] Alongside the Human Division, it is one of the only two new government divisions created since the Constitution of 2015 was adopted.[4]
The Division counts with responsibilities previously attributed to the Justice Division.
