The Sato Prefecture (Sabian: vaonakurói satonn) is one of the three prefectures in the Gonn region of Sabia and Verona. It is the smallest city in the region by population and the second smallest prefecture by territory. Sato borders Kotavari and Monesari to the South and Argentina to the North, East and West.
Sato is home to important energy and water resources that serve all of the Southern Territories; thus, though geographically the most isolated of Gonn's prefectures, it is vital to the survival of the Kingdom.
History
The territory of what is now the Sato Prefecture was originally founded as part of the Alios-Capital Region in August 2015, when the first Valtirian settlers arrived in the Southern Territories. The Sato area was first named Kotavari (meaning "place of chocolate" in Sabian), a name now given to another area of the region, then called Tepou Éissarann. Due to a confusion in the early days of the Southern Territories, the names were swapped and eventually Tepou Éissarann stuck, while Kotavari fell out of favor. The constituencies of Kotavari (in Sato) and Tepou Éissarann (in what is now Kotavari) existed in the Sabioveronese Parliament until 2016.
The Alios-Capital Region was split up into the autonomous City of Alios and the Region of Gonn in 2015.[1] The territory of Sato was grouped with the localities of Étanou and Monesari to form the Minoumon Prefecture. Following the adoption of the Constitution of 2017, a new organization of Sabia and Verona's administrative divisions came into place. The prefecture was renamed after the Asami Sato, a fictional character from the The Legend of Korra series. The prefecture's first elected prefect was Adelaide Fodness, of the Liberal Party.[2] In 2018, she was succeeded by the Democratic Party's Rosso Gomu.[3]
Administration
As a prefecture, Sato is directly administered by a democratically elected prefect, or mayor. The one-person prefectural government is subordinated to the regional government, in the case of Sato, the government of Gonn. The Prefect of Sato is Rosso Gomu, of the Democratic Party. Gomu was elected in 2018.
