The following is a list of users on MicroWiki by edit count.

Background

A user's edit count is displayed on their Special:Preferences page

MicroWiki is the largest online micronational wiki and encyclopaedia. Founded on 27 May 2005 by German national Fabian Schneider and originally hosted on the wiki-hosting service Wikicities (later Wikia and now Fandom), it has, since 14 November 2010, been running on an independent domain with MediaWiki software—the same software used by Wikipedia and other Wikimedia Foundation websites. As a wiki, users are able to directly make changes to the website via a web browser.

Every user has an edit count, which is the total number of times a user has made a change or changes to a page on the wiki. All edit counts are displayed publicly (often next to a user's account name, depending on each user's chosen graphical interface display) as well as on a user's private settings page. Editors of MicroWiki are uncommonly known as MicroWikians; users who are particularly dedicated to editing might be referred to humorously as "MicroWikiholics" due to their perceived addiction to the website.

Edit count resets

Although MicroWiki was founded on 27 May 2005, edit counts have been reset on two occasions. The first time occurred when MicroWiki moved from its original domain on Wikia to an independent domain, microwiki.org.uk, on 14 November 2010, and all content was manually imported. On 7 November 2013, all edit counts—as well as page revision (edit) histories—were erased after MicroWiki moved its domain to micronation.org because of a technical error that occurred during the transition.

Counting edits

On the mobile display, a user's edit count is shown at the bottom left corner of any of their edit revisions on MicroWiki

An edit count on MicroWiki is a number stored for each user that tallies the total instances they have saved changes to a page on the wiki. MicroWiki, which operates on MediaWiki software, records edits made in any namespace—such as articles, drafts, talk pages, file uploads, user pages, user talk pages and templates. However, some edit types included in certain page count tools—like page moves or deleted edits—are not captured by other counting methods. For example, if an editor manually counts their edits using Special:Contributions (a user's chronological edit listing), there may be a significant discrepancy between this count and the "official" edit count listed by the server on their Special:Preferences user settings page.

When a user renames (moves) a page, it adds a history entry for the move on both the old and new page names, counting as two edits towards the user's total contributions count. If the moved page also had a talk page, which is thus also renamed, this adds another two edits, resulting in a single page move contributing up to four edits to the user's total. However, while these four edits appear on the user's Special:Contributions page, the server count on Special:Preference considers only the newly-moved page and its talk page as a single edit each, ignoring the revision entry on the old pages. Thus, it would only count two edits. Additionally, Special:Contributions does not include deleted edits, while Special:Preferences does. Deleted edits are those that are no longer accessible to non-administrators, either because the page was deleted or specific revisions were manually deleted (revision deletion) for violating one of MicroWiki's policies.

Display

On MicroWiki's mobile view (called MinervaNeue), a user's edit count is displayed at the bottom left corner of any of their edit revisions. The MediaWiki extension EditCountNeue presents a user's live edit count when typed out on a page via the code {{#editcount:User}}, replacing User with the desired account. However, EditCountNeue gathers its data directly from a user's Special:Contributions page, thus counting page moves twice while simultaneously excluding deleted edits. This creates a potentially inaccurate count, especially for user accounts with either many page moves or numerous deleted edits. Another active MediaWiki extension on MicroWiki, Special:Editcount, gives a more detailed view of a user's edits by namespace. However, it too gathers its data directly from Special:Contributions, presenting all of the aforementioned concerns.

Relationship between edit count and proficiency

Edit counts are generally a crude and inaccurate measure of determining an editor's skill or worth on MicroWiki. This is because they do not indicate the quality of work nor the significance of a user's contributions to the wiki; many editors with high edit counts perform routine tasks that require less time per edit than writing content, such as fixing typographical errors, maintaining and adding templates, updating and maintaining lists, reverting vandalism or creating redirects. Conversely, users who create a number of long pages or make major additions might spend as much as a week or more undertaking research before editing, and thus have much lower edit counts.

Furthermore, some editors use the 'Show Preview' button until they are satisfied with a particular (possibly very long) edit, while others will habitually save a succession of small changes as they go. Lastly, some editors may excessively edit pages in the user namespace, especially their own userpages (also called sandboxes) when making test edits. Finally, editors may also employ bots or automated tools to help them make edits, which are capable of hastily fixing many simple errors such as spelling, linking or formatting errors. In contrast, some bot owners route their bot or automated edits through separate bot accounts while others include them in their own edits, further resulting in a discrepancy between multiple user's edit counts.

List

Varuna Sriraya is the most prolific editor

Although MicroWiki was founded on 27 May 2005, the edit counts of all users have been reset on two occasions; see § Edit count resets above. The below list includes the edit counts of users on all domains of MicroWiki. However, while the edit counts of user accounts on the Wikia website between 27 May 2005 and 14 November 2010 are still publicly viewable on MicroNations Fandom, nearly all edit counts made on microwiki.org.uk (14 November 2010–7 November 2013) are now lost. In an imperfect attempt limit this discrepancy, a user's edit count on microwiki.org.uk will be estimated based on various calculation methods, such as known edit counts (typically via snapshots of the website on the Wayback Machine) and guesses based on calculations from the known average daily edit counts of users with registered accounts on either Wikia or the current MicroWiki domain. Instances of these calculations are indicated with a bolded asterisk (*) below.

The following table presents the top 50 most prolific editors on MicroWiki.

Historical progression

Beginnings

Fabian Schneider, the founder of MicroWiki, made the website's first edit

The first user to register an edit was Fabian Schneider, the founder of MicroWiki under the username Monsterfurby, on 27 May 2005. Thus, he held the record for highest edit count by default. However, after making only seven edits, he departed from MicroWiki that same day—just 34 minutes after having registered the domain. Schneider's record was then matched on 25 September by an anonymous user editing under the IP address 84.235.136.6 (but identified by MicroWiki historian Zabëlle Skye as Emperor Cetanu of the Carpathian Empire). However, Cetanu also ceased editing after just a single day.

On 14 October, Perry, Chancellor of the United Republic of Arlberg, became the most prolific editor. He edited under at least six IP addresses and one registered account, Roamingjanitors. Having arrived on 18 September, Perry was immensely active, having made 25 edits on the day he became the most prolific MicroWikian. On 19 October, noting the absence of any administrator, Perry proclaimed himself the new de facto manager of the main page of MicroWiki. However, Perry became less active in January 2006, making only 17 edits that month.

Hodgson and Reinhardt

On 2 May 2006, Jeffrey Hodgson, the Prince and founder of Satirocity who had arrived on MicroWiki on 30 April, overtook Perry's contribution count upon reaching 110 edits. Hodgson was intensely active, and owned various accounts. Aged nine years old at the time, he regularly updated and maintained the lists on the main page on a daily basis, principally adding numerous micronations and ensuring it remain in alphabetical order. He also conducted numerous maintenance edits (such as adding categories and fixing typographical errors), alongside making numerous edits to articles related to Satirocity—the primary source of his edit count.

On 18 August, Schneider, upon his brief return to MicroWiki, appointed him as the first administrator of MicroWiki since the wiki's creation. However, despite having been just appointed as an administrator, Hodgson's activity on the wiki began to dwindle, with his last edit occurring on 18 October—having made 1,228 in total. Hodgson's record would not be broken until 27 April 2009, when Alexander Reinhardt (editing as Cajak), founder of the Federal Republic of St.Charlie, overtook him. MicroWiki's first domain move on 14 November 2010 to microwiki.co.cc (and then to microwiki.org.uk on 2 December) caused all edit counts to be reset due to the adoption of MediaWiki software and move away from Wikia, the previous host website. By this which point, Reinhardt had made a total of 5,257 edits.

Aldrich Lucas

Because of Wikia's software restrictions, all pages on the old MicroWiki website had to be manually imported to the new domain. Aldrich Lucas, an administrator at the time, took on the liberty of doing this strenuous task, resulting in his edit count surging. The precise progression of his edit count is unknown; it is, however, documented in a talk page message by Lucas himself that he had "almost 16,000" edits on 8 January 2011, and his final edit count was 28,632 when he retired from editing on 20 February 2012. Combined with his 2,894 edits from his old account on the former MicroWiki on the Wikia domain, Lucas had made 31,526 edits all together, thus making him the first MicroWiki user to reach 10,000, 20,000 and 30,000 edits.

Although the exact date he reached these milestones is unknown, it can be guessed based on the aforementioned available data. Tentatively assuming Lucas had an edit count of at least 15,900 on 8 January, this would indicate that he had made some 12,732 edits between 8 January 2011 and 20 February 2012. Assuming no change in editing patterns (though it certainly would have), it can be assumed that Lucas made 979.38 edits per month, meaning he had possibly reached 20,000 edits in May 2011 and 30,000 in January 2012.

Since 7 November 2013

Upon MicroWiki's third edit count reset on 7 November 2013, Joseph Puglisi (editing under the username Puggy), microgenitor of the Kingdom of Tiana, was the first person to make an edit, doing so that same day. During the domain move, almost all edit history revisions were also erased except for the last edits made to imported pages; thus, the notional edit counts of several users would be highly inflated if their edits were counted according to Special:Contributions. However, including only the server counts of users—that is, edits made after the domain move—Puggy's edit count of 4 was overtaken on 9 November by Ciprian of Juclandia (editing as Cip); his own edit count was then overtaken on 10 November by Miles B. Huff (Swena) upon reaching 13 edits—later making 50 that same day.

Huff's edit count was overtaken on 6 June 2014 by site owner Jonathan I, Emperor of the Empire of Austenasia (editing under the account Austenasia), upon reaching 761 edits. Ned Gunderson (then editing under the account Nedland; now called Mikejones) briefly overtook Jonathan I on 18 November 2015 with 2,802 edits, followed by Jonathan I retaking the top spot on 27 December with 2,953 edits. On 1 March 2016, Tarik Karjasari (Ricky), King of the Kingdom of Sabia and Verona, briefly occupied the top spot for a period of seven days with 3,297 edits before being overtaken on 8 March by Jonathan I with 3,334 edits. On 15 May, Gunderson reclaimed the top spot upon reaching 3,581 edits.

He held the record for the highest edit count for 1,065 days until finally being overtaken by John, King of the Kingdom of Baustralia (then editing as KingdomOfBaustralia; now known as John of Baustralia) on 15 April 2019, upon reaching 15,659 edits. On 7 November, John was overtaken by Zabëlle Skye (then Z. Luna Skye, later ZabëlleNB and now Noone), then-Prince of the Principality of New Eiffel, with 18,607 edits. Skye became the first user on MicroWiki to reach 40,000 edits on 9 March 2021, and the first to hit 50,000 edits on 13 May 2022. On 4 December 2022, after holding the highest edit count for a record 1,123 days, Skye was finally overtaken by Varuna Sriraya (Oritsu.me), Rashtradhyaksh (monarch) of Vishwamitra, with 53,840 edits.

Sriraya became the first user to reach 70,000 edits on 22 April 2023, 80,000 edits on 25 June and 90,000 edits on 22 August 2024.
