The Kingdom of Ikonia (/kniə/ (listen)), known simply as Ikonia, is a micronation consisting of multiple non-contiguous pieces of land, with its mainland located within Davenport, Florida, where the Royal Residence is. Founded on 19 October 2018, Ikonia has a surface area of 13.09 acres and a population of 18 full citizens, 16 of whom are territorial citizens.[1] The Kingdom's form of government is an absolute monarchy, defined by the Declaration of Independence; it was solely based on a monarchy as it is the most common government system within micronationalism.[2] The current King of Ikonia is HM Abrams, who has ruled Ikonia since its foundation. The mainland consists of one city—the capital and most populous Uvenia—and three towns, Cloubury, Esterton and Osceola. Ancellotta and Veritasia are provisional cities. Ikonia also has three Marches, territories which cannot be designated a city nor town; Novaria, Zenmurdistan and Lafayette. Idolas is the only Crown Dependency, and borders the Paloman Province of Pajaro. Ikonia also lays claim to multiple islands and territories internationally; Baker Island, the Dominion of the Caribbean, a collective of territory in the Caribbean under Abrams as the King of the Caribbean, and the Dominion of Masso – the latter established on 3 March 2021.

The Kingdom's total size has increased throughout its history, starting out with 0.12 acres as provinces of the Royal Residence. It declared independence from the US state of Florida on 19 October 2018, and the letter was sent to the governor of Florida, Rick Scott, on 7 December. Ikonia adopted its current constitution on 28 December. The Territorial Era is dated to begin after the demonarchization of Kapreburg on 5 April 2019, which later caused Abrams to take more land for himself and the Kingdom, creating the Dominion of the Caribbean, the erstwhile Dominion of Blake, and Orange County, Uvenia. State-owned companies could now rule territory, given the King approves it. The Ikonian Empire was later revived on 28 April 2019, but was abolished in full on 21 December 2020. A list of all the territorial changes in Ikonia was listed in a news article published by the Ikonia Post.[3]

Etymology

The word 'Ikonia' derives from an anagram of the King's dog's name, Niko. The Greek name 'Niko' is an abbreviation of the name Nicholas, but also a derivation of Nikolaos, which means "victory of the people".[4]

History

Foundation and subsequent diplomacy

The Kingdom of Ikonia was founded by Abrams on 19 October 2018, after showing interest in a video about the micronation Molossia, Abrams believed having a micronation would benefit himself and his family, and wrote the Declaration of Independence[2] on 19 October 2018. He proclaimed himself the nation's first Monarch as HM Abrams, and his brother, George Wiucki-Dunswed, was appointed to the Treasury of Ikonia. The King proceeded to write basic acts for the treasury and created ministries. On 7 December, Ikonia's letter of micronations and declaring themselves as a nation was sent to the governor of Florida, Rick Scott. Following the enactment of the Diplomatic Recognition Ruling on 19 October 2018,[5] all treaties and recognition from Ikonia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs subsequently became null and ineffective. The first micronation Ikonia began relations with was the erstwhile Catholique Socialist Republic, of which the President, Aidan McGrath, was awarded the Order of the Diaconus, however it was later revoked on 25 May 2019 due to constant changes in McGrath's form of government of Quebec. Ikonia recognised all member states of the Grand Unified Micronational unilaterally on 17 January 2019. The Ikonian government later published a social media press letter regarding the policy on how Ikonian social media accounts shall be run on 21 February.[6]

Territorial Era

The Territorial Era is dated to begin after the demonarchization of Kapreburg on 5 April 2019, this led to the creation of the Kapresh Indies, territory for Kapreburg, Aidan I and Abrams both helped in making. This later caused Abrams to take more land for himself and the Kingdom, thus creating the Dominion of the Caribbean, the Dominion of Blake, and Orange County, Uvenia. State-owned companies could now rule territory, given the King approves it. The Ikonian Empire was later revived on 28 April. A list of all the territorial changes in Ikonia was listed in a news article published by the Ikonia Post.[3] Following a three-month hiatus, the Ikonian government finally legislated the dissolving of the PNGMRNK, through the Mandate and Dominion Act 2019 on 12 October, which created the Dominion of Rishania.[7] Idolas was established on 21 August as a Crown Dependency after an offer to be annexed as a gift was made by Paloma, the President of Paloma and subsequent Duke of Limiport Aidan McGrath, who was appointed Governing Commissioner of the Crown Dependency upon its foundation.[8] Cloubury was later established as a town by the Ikonian government after the passage of the Affixed Division Act of 2020 on 21 August.[9] Two Marches were established on 29 August, Zenmurdistan and Lafayette, founded by Leon, Marquis of Zenmurdistan and Jayden, Marquis de Lafayette respectively.

Foreign relations

The Kingdom establishes and maintains diplomatic relations with other nations through the Foreign Office, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Minister has the power to grant "states of friendship" and tacit recognition, but official recognition of another nation may only be granted by the monarch.

Ikonia has since sought diplomatic relations mainly through the MicroWiki Sector and the GUM, but also holds friendly relations with other nations outside of said sector such as Molossia. Ikonia has been associated within the community with Baustralia, Kapreburg and Former McGrathic states, be it for its negative or positive views on one another. Ikonia has friendly diplomatic relations with several nations, including but by no means limited to Kapreburg, Gradonia, Arthuria, Paloma, Essexia, Austenasia and Adammia among many others.

Ikonia has a stricter policy when it comes to joining intermicronational organisations — Ikonia was a member state of the Grand Unified Micronational from 25 December 2018 to 20 August 2021. Ikonia was also the head member state of Accentra from 14 January 2019 until its dissolvement on 6 September 2019.

Geography

The total surface area of the Kingdom of Ikonia is approximately 0.053 km2 (13.09 acres).

Administrative divisions

Ikonia is comprised of several separate pieces of land. The most populated territory, Uvenia - the Ikonia capital - consists of the Royal Residence, a residential property. All main core Ikonian lands hold a representative, and are majorly consisted of lands in Florida, yet with the March of Novaria and Zenmurdistan, land can be foreign as well.

The other divisions of Ikonia are mainly cities under provisional status due to the Affixed Dominion Act of April 2019, dominions, overseas territories, and or other territory designated with a different division. Former mandates, and crown dependencies were changed with the passing of a Dominion act of the Kingdom of Ikonia on 25 April 2019.[12]

Transport

All transport in the Kingdom is primarily handled by the Ministry of Transportation, however, it is subject to the King's approval. Aerospace travel was maintained by JISA - a former intermicronational government agency collectively owned both by Ikonia and the State of Gradonia responsible for the citizens space program, as well as aeronautics and aerospace research. The King served as JISA Administrator until JISA officially dissolved following months of inactivity. The Royal Geographical Society mapped roads and created various traffic laws. Air transport is also maintained by the Ministry of Transportation as well as Blue Airlines, which is however currently under heavy hiatus.

Government

Ikonia is a royal absolute monarchy ruled by the House of Wiucki-Dunswed. The Throne is officially hereditary.

HM King Abrams is head of state as Monarch, and holds the most vast, executive, legislative, and judicial powers. He can not be held accountable to any members of the government as it is an absolute monarchy under his ruling. On a daily basis, most executive power is exercised by the Monarch and the Privy Council. The Supreme Judge aids in judiciary cases involving law and prosecutions of Ikonia. The Kingdom of Ikonia also contains several other lands, which fall under the direct and absolute authority of the Monarch, with Governor General's usually being appointed to represent him and exercise his power; such as the Dominion of Masso or the Dominion of the Caribbean. Furthermore, there are also several Government Ministries which execute power over certain specified fields and industries, as well as diplomatic Ambassadors to various macronations.

Ministries

Military

Official flag of AFOI

The Armed Forces of Ikonia are the military of the Kingdom, administered and partially funded by the Treasury of Ikonia. It comprises of sea, land and air, comprising of His Majesty's Navy (HMN), His Majesty's Army (HMA), and His Majesty's Air Force (HMAF) respectively. Personnel may belong to the Reserve force or the Regular force. There are separate branches of the Navy for support, such as His Majesty's Marines (HMM), and His Majesty's Medical Branch (HMMB). There are currently four enlisted soldiers in the Armed Forces of Ikonia: three in the Army, and two in the Air Force. The AFOI can also rely on various foreign volunteers from the state of Florida, and elsewhere in the United States, greatly improving the potential overall military strength of the Kingdom. The flag of the military is based on the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom and Malaysia. The former design consisted of the Gadsden flag with the snake wearing the crown representing His Majesty; the motto being "ARMED FORCES OF IKONIA", and the blue background that represented loyalty to the Monarchy.

Demographics

An example of an official citizenship document of Ikonia

The Royal Geographical Society, an agency of the Ministry of Registration, is responsible for collating statistics about the demographics of the Kingdom. The population of Ikonia at the beginning of 2019 was 16. Most new citizens come from the acquisition of new territory rather than immigration into an existing territory. Of the population, 11 (68%) are male and five (42%) are female. At the end of April 2019, four people held honorary Ikonian citizenship, however, these honorary citizens are not considered part of the population as they do not reside in Ikonian territory and are not bound by its laws, nor have rights.Citizenship of the Kingdom is only granted by the Monarch himself, and does not come with residency, nor can you claim residency. Official citizenship documents are given to known citizens of Ikonia by the King. Most Ikonian citizens receive education up to the age of 18 and have access to free healthcare in the United States.

Languages

English is Ikonia's official language, and the only language which is used in day-to-day life and spoken by every citizen of the Kingdom. Ikonian is prominently used as a ceremonial language, mainly by the monarchy in speeches or key press releases. Most Ikonia citizens have been or are being educated in the United States of America.

Religion

Both Buddhism and Christianity are recognised as the official religions of the Kingdom, however neither of them hold any power within the government nor impeach upon freedom of religion. Eight of Ikonia's 16 citizens (46.6%) have given their religion as Christianity, more specifically, Roman Catholicism. The majority of citizens as well as Abrams believe that Ikonia is a free religious nation, this being a result of the Religion Ruling on 8 February 2019. All religions must be treated equally under the law (as long as it does not hurt or damage someone physically, mentally, and in any other way.) Freedom of religion is allowed and has been since the founding of DeBruinism on 8 February 2019.[13]

Culture

Ikonia's culture is mainly influenced by American culture, however there are also strong traces of Norwegian culture and Transterran culture within Ikonia during different holidays. Music is held in high regard. Internet culture is also frequented in Ikonia, such as with memes. Demographically and ethnically, Ikonia considers itself to be very diverse.

Music

Ikonia has a national government written newspaper called the Ikonia Post on Wordpress, which has been operating since November 2018.[14] The Ikonia Post is written and edited completely by the King and his government, and it posts 2-4 articles per month. The Kingdom's official broadcaster is Ikonian Broadcasting, which uploads rarely, Ikonian National News segments on YouTube. Frequent video games played in the Kingdom are Hearts of Iron IV, Overwatch, and the most common, Minecraft.
