Antonio I (Jaraguá do Sul, Brazil, 2 February 1996) is the first and current reigning Prince of New Switzerland within the Kingdom of Ebenthal and he serves ex officio as the Archsteward of the Independent State of the New Southern Rhine, where he attends as Prince Antônio Scherer, and brother to that country's king, Jonathan I. He is also the head of the Princely branch of the House of Scherer-Arrais.

Antônio was born in Jaraguá do Sul to a German-Brazilian family, being the older of three children and fluent in Katarinensisch, a local variation of the Riograndenser Hunsrückisch (also called Hunsrik), from birth. His family moved to the highlands of Rio de Janeiro in 2011, settling in Teresópolis first and then in Nova Friburgo.

A veteran micronationalist, Antônio began his micronational political career as a representative of Gros Morne in the Council of Fools of Roschfallen in 2014. He was a key player in the independence of Ebenthal, where he was made absolute and hereditary ruler of the Principality of New Switzerland. Governing the most traditional federative unit in the country, Antônio is very influential in the national political scenario, taking a stand and actively participating in political debates and discussions.

Biography

Early life

Antonio was born in Jaraguá do Sul, in southern Brazil, on a small family of native German speakers of the Katarinensisch, a local variation of the Riograndenser Hunsrückisch. He has three younger brothers, among them, Jonathan Scherer-Arrais, King by the Rhine. As his father was born in West Germany (to Brazilian parents), he and his brothers acquired German citizenship at early age. At the age of 10, he moved with his family to Nova Friburgo in the moutain region of Rio de Janeiro, where his mother inherited a property of her deceased and childless brother. The family had already planned to move closer to an important urban center such as Curitiba and São Paulo in order to got available better education and job offers.

Education

Antonio joined the biligual Austro-Brazilian Catholic School on his hometown, growing a native speaker of Portuguese and German, as his family members. When his family moved to Nova Friburgo he joined one of the city's few German schools where he graduated in 2013. In 2014 Antônio entered the Catholic University of Petrópolis, eventually moving to the Fluminente Federal University, where he studied international relations, having participated in several exchange programs in Europe. Besides his formal education, Antônio also graduated in a English language course.
