Shivangi Roy (born 2010), formerly Princess Shivangi, is a Vishwamitran politician and former royal who is currently serving as a minister in the union council of ministers since 29 March 2024. She has also served as the Chief Minister of Purvanchal from 28 November 2022 until 31 December 2023. She is a second cousin of the rulers Varuna Sriraya of Purvanchal, Tanishkaa Patranabish of Beltola and Anoushkaa Patranabish of Basistha.
Personal life
Shivangi Roy was born in 2010 as the only child of her parents. She is a second cousin of Varuna Sriraya, Tanishkaa Patranabish, Anoushkaa Patranabish, and Klarissa Sriraya.
Micronationalism
Royal activities
She became a citizen of Vishwamitra on 13 April 2022 upon finding out about micronationalism from Varuna Sriraya. She was created a princess in Purvanchal by the Rajpramukh of Purvanchal and granted the distinction and privileges of a junior princess.
On 12 March 2023, following reforms initiated to the royal family by the ruler of Purvanchal, she lost her royal status.
Politics
On 31 July 2022, Shivangi was appointed as a minister of state in the union council of ministers headed by prime minister Farhaz Hazarika. She was appointed the Minister of State in the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Administration and Minister assisting the Deputy Prime Minister and remained in office until the dissolution of the council on 11 November 2022. She was declined a ticket during the 2022 general election to the Lok Sabha and ceased to be a minister when the new government was sworn-in on 12 November 2022. Weeks later, on 28 November 2022, she was appointed the Chief Minister of Purvanchal by Princess Regent Klarissa Sriraya and succeeded Tanvi Sridasa in office.
She was nominated as a candidate by the National People's Congress for Sri Vijayapur (reserved) constituency of Lok Sabha during the 2023 general election and was elected unopposed. Upon her election to the Lok Sabha, she was inducted into the union council of ministers as Minister of State for Home Affairs and Federal Affairs and Administration. She served as a minister until the resignation of prime minister Farhaz Hazarika on 29 March 2024 and his subsequent succession by his first deputy Klarissa Sriraya, the same day.
Following the appointment of Klarissa Sriraya as prime minister, Shivangi was inducted in her council of ministers as Deputy Minister for Home Affairs. She was assigned the additional charge as Deputy Minister for Intergovernmental Affairs on 12 May 2024. On 31 May 2024, she was re-designated as a minister of state and appointed Minister of State for Home Affairs and Intergovernmental Affairs. During a cabinet reshuffle on 15 June 2024, she was appointed Minister of State for Education in the Ministry of Education and Youth Development. She was assigned the additional charge as Minister of State for Gender and Equality on 3 July 2024.
