The Ministry of Federal Affairs and Administration (Hindi: संघीय कार्य एवं प्रशासन मंत्रालय‎) is a former union ministry in the government of Vishwamitra which dealt with the management of the local government in Vishwamitra. The ministry was responsible for the affairs of the federation, local governance and its administration, municipalities and the mayoral councils, interstate communication and cooperation and territorial development.

The ministry came into existence on 10 June 2022 after the merger of the Ministry of Local Administration and Ministry of Interstate Cooperation. The ministry ceased to exist on 29 March 2024 and was succeeded by the Ministry of Local Government and General Administration.

History

The Ministry of Federal Affairs and Administration was formed as a result of the merger of the two independent ministries of Local Administration and Interstate Cooperation. The Ministry of Local Administration was concerned with the affairs of the local governance and its administration along with the administration of the city councils and the municipalities; while the Ministry of Interstate Cooperation was responsible for the affairs concerning cooperation between the states and the affairs concerning the development of the states and its relations with the centre.

Since the ministries performed related job, the two ministries were united as one through a Gazette Notification published by the Rashtradhyaksh on 10 June 2022 which resulted in the formation of the "Ministry of Federal Affairs and Administration".
