The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) (Hindi: प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय) is the central executive agency in the Government of Vishwamitra. It is classified as an executive ministry which is headed by a Minister of State. Its main responsibility is to assist the Prime Minister of Vishwamitra in the role of head of government and chair of the Cabinet of Vishwamitra.
History
The Prime Minister's Office was created on 11 April 2016 by then Prime Minister Varuna Sriraya. The first Minister of State in the PMO was Anirban Phatowali who served in the Third Varuna Sriraya ministry.
Functions
As a central executive agency, the Office of the Prime Minister is in charge of the coordination and management of the executive branch of the government of Vishwamitra. It assists prime ministers in the execution of their duties and helps them manage and formulate policies. It also acts as the cabinet office, recording and assisting the cabinet as a central functioning organ of the government. The prime minister must appoint a Minister of State in charge, who is also a member of the council of ministers, to oversee its operations.
Ministers
The head of the Prime Minister's Office is the Minister of State (Independent Charge) in the Prime Minister's Office, who is a junior minister in the union council of ministers assisting the Prime Minister. Since the creation of the department, a junior minister has always been appointed as the in-charge of the PMO, however on certain occasions, a cabinet minister has also been appointed. The current minister-in-charge is W. Pranit Singh who was appointed on 22 November 2021.
