The Ministry of Federal Territories (Hindi: संघीय क्षेत्र मंत्रालय‎) is the ministry of the government of Vishwamitra which is responsible for formulating and administrating the rules, regulations and laws relating to the administration and development of the federal territories of Vishwamitra, viz. Rajagriha, Chandrabans, New Alamo, Roanoke, New Indischeland, Rabat-Mġarr, Navrajya, and Swarnarajya. The ministry acts as a bridge between the representatives of the governments of the federal territories and the federal government of Vishwamitra, and is tasked with all such matters and affairs related to ensuring the development and progress of the federal territories.

History

The Ministry of Federal Territories was created on 12 May 2024 in the fourth Klarissa Sriraya ministry for formulation of laws and policies, and to oversee the administration and development of all the federal territories. Historically, the Ministry of Home Affairs was responsible for the affairs related to the crown dependencies, while all the overseas territories were handled by the Ministry of External Affairs. The federal capital of Rajagriha had its own authority and was controlled directly by the Rashtradhyaksh. Following the adoption and subsequent implementation of the Federal Territories Act of 2023, all the existing crown dependencies and overseas territories were re-designated as federal territories and their affairs were placed upon the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Administration. Bhalam was the first federal territory to be annexed following the changes.

Following the dissolution of the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Administration, its successor, the Ministry of Local Government and General Administration was responsible for the affairs related to the federal territories. On 12 May 2024, the Ministry of Federal Territories was created for handling affairs related to the federal territories. The Ministry of Bhalam Affairs was created on 30 May 2024 for the affairs of the special territory of Bhalam.

Organization

The Ministry of Federal Territories is headed by the Minister of Federal Territories, who is a senior minister of the cabinet of Vishwamitra, and along with the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, and Minister of Local Government and Community Development are the three ministers responsible for the territorial affairs of Vishwamitra. The minister is occasionally assisted by the Minister of State for Federal Territories. The minister coordinates with the respective heads of the federal territories on matters related to their administration, progress, and development. The minister is also an ex-officio member of the Federal Territorial Council which is composed of the heads of the federal territories.
