The Coordinating Ministry of Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Hindi: राजनीतिक, कानूनी और सुरक्षा मामलों का समन्वय मंत्रालय) was a special cabinet-level agency of the Government of Vishwamitra responsible for the planning and policy co-ordination, as well as synchronisation of policies in the affairs of politics, law, and national security. The ministry was formed on 17 June 2020 under reforms initiated by then prime minister Anoushkaa Patranabish as a result of the merger of the three independent ministries of - Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice and Ministry of National Defence. The ministry was headed by the Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs who was a senior cabinet-level minister and the position was usually held by the deputy prime minister or a senior minister. Prince Abhiraj of Purvanchal was appointed as the first holder of the ministry on 17 June 2020.
The coordinating ministry was abolished on 28 January 2021 along with all other coordinating ministries created. The three independent ministries which were merged together to form the coordinating ministry were reconstituted as independent ministries of the central government.
History
The Coordinating Ministry of Political, Legal and Security Affairs came into existence on 17 June 2020 as a result of the merger of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice, and the Ministry of National Defence under the reforms initiated by then prime minister Anoushkaa Patranabish. The ministry was formed keeping in line her vision for a streamlined administration and the merger of the three important ministries of the government was done for better cooperation between the three related ministries.
The ministry was abolished on 28 January 2021 with the three constituent ministries again becoming independent and individual ministries of the government.
Organization
The Coordinating Ministry of Political, Legal and Security Affairs was headed by the Coordinating Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs who was a cabinet-level appointee of the union council of ministers. The minister was responsible for handling the affairs of the ministry and coordinating with the Prime Minister in the affairs under the jurisdiction of the ministry. The minister was also responsible for handling the following agencies:
