The Ministry of Regional and State Affairs (Hindi: क्षेत्रीय और राज्य विषयक मंत्रालय) was a ministry of the Government of Vishwamitra (then Friends Society) and now a department under the Ministry of Federal Affairs and Administration. The ministry came into existence for the first time as two independent ministries, namely. the Ministry of Regional Affairs and the Ministry of States on 30 December 2016. The two ministries were merged together on 21 March 2018 following the re-election of Dhrubajyoti Roy as the prime minister.
The ministry was responsible for the regional affairs and promotion of cooperation and development among the states and the other administrative divisions. The ministry was formed months after the creation of the administrative divisions in September 2016.
The ministry was abolished on 16 July 2019 and reformed into the Ministry of Cooperation and Regional Development.
History
Following the re-election of the Secular Party under the leadership of prime minister Dhrubajyoti Roy in the general election on 30 December 2016, two ministries were formed with the aim of promoting cooperation and amity among the states of the union. The Ministry of Regional Development was formed with the aim of development of the regions and the Ministry of States was formed for the progress and development of the states.
On 21 March 2018, the two ministries were merged together to form the Ministry of Regional and State Affairs. The ministry remained in force until being abolished to form the Ministry of Cooperation and Regional Development on 16 July 2019.

The Minister of Regional Affairs was the head of the Ministry of Regional Affairs. The position was occasionally held by a cabinet rank minister who was assisted by a minister of state. The first cabinet minister was Anoushkaa Patranabish who was appointed on 30 December 2016.
The Minister of Regional Affairs on several occasions also held the portfolio of the Ministry of States until the merger of the two ministries in 2018.

The Minister of States was the head of the Ministry of States. The position was often held by a cabinet rank minister who was occasionally assisted by a minister of state. The Minister of Regional Affairs on several occasions also held the portfolio of the Ministry of States until the merger of the two ministries in 2018. The first minister of states was Anoushkaa Patranabish who was appointed on 30 December 2016.
