The Rajpramukh of Basistha (Hindi: वशिष्ठ के राजप्रमुख, Bengali: বশিষ্ঠর রাজপ্রমুখ) is the absolute monarch of the Vishwamitran state of Basistha and a constituent ruler and a member of the Conference of Rulers. As absolute monarch, the Rajpramukh acts as both the head of state and head of government of Basistha who is responsible for the management of day-to-day of the state of Basistha.
History
The monarchy in Basistha was first established on 8 June 2020 with Mohammad Mridul Amin as the first state ruler. At the time of the establishment of the monarchy, the other members of the Conference of Rulers decided to create an elective monarchy for the state whose ruler is to be nominated by consensus among the members of the conference. However, with the adoption of the new constitution on 1 August 2021, speculations were rising for the abolition of the monarchy with Prime Minister Ștefan Marius Snagoveanu receiving a post-retirement appointment in the state.
As expected, the constitution provided special provisions for the abolition of the monarchy under Article 50 which granted the Conference of Rulers with the power to abolish the Basistha monarchy in case of inactivity or disability of the ruling monarch. Subsequently, a motion was proposed in the Conference of Rulers followed by the same in the Privy Council in early September 2021. Rajpramukh Mridul Amin abdicated on 11 September 2021 as he focused to pursue his medical education, which led to the abolition of the monarchy on 11 September 2021.
Prime Minister Ștefan Marius Snagoveanu resigned from his position in favour of Farhaz Hazarika and assumed the position of the Rajyapal of Basistha (translation: Governor of Basistha) which granted the similar power and responsibilities of that of a non-royal head of state. However, his tenure did not go as expected. In order to pursue a political career and citing administrative hindrances, he proposed his resignation on 12 March 2022. An emergency meeting of the Conference of Rulers which supported the re-establishment of the monarchy of Basistha in order to bring stability and prosperity to the state and subsequently named Princess Anoushkaa as the Rajpramukh of Basistha. Anoushkaa Patranabish assumed the throne of Basistha on 18 March 2022 and was later granted an audience by the Rashtradhyaksh the same day.
Honours
The honours system of Basistha was created by Rajyapal Ștefan Marius Snagoveanu on 28 November 2021 through a decree. As the head of state of Basistha, the Rajpramukh is the Sovereign and Grand Mistress of all the honours of the state of Basistha. These include:
- The Most Distinguished Order of Basistha
- The Most Distinguished Order of Basistha is the highest order of chivalry of Basistha which is largely conferred upon individuals for highest levels of services rendered for the development of the state and its people. Serving and former Sovereigns of Basistha become Additional Members of the order.
- The Most Excellent Order of Merit of Basistha
- The Most Excellent Order of Merit of Basistha is the second-highest chivalric order which is conferred in recognition of services of merit rendered by individuals towards the state of Basistha and its people. It is conferred in three distinguished grades of Grand Companion, Companion, and Member.

Mohammad Mridul Amin served as the first Rajpramukh of the state of Basistha following the establishment of the Vishwamitran monarchy on 8 June 2020 and reigned until his abdication on 11 September 2021. Prior to his accesion to the throne, Mridul Amin had served as the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Basistha and had been a minister in the union cabinet for several tenures. | ||||||

Anoushkaa Patranabish was appointed as the second Rajpramukh of Basistha by the members of the Conference of Rulers on 12 March 2022 and subsequently took over on 18 March. She became the first to take over following the re-establishment of the monarchy. Prior to her appointment, she was serving as the Deputy Prime Minister and had previously been the President and Prime Minister of the nation on several occasions. |
