The Association of South Asian Micronations, abbreviated as ASAM, is a regional intergovernmental organization and geopolitical union of micronations in South Asia. It was established on 25 August 2020, with the aim of promoting peace, harmony and unity among the member nations.

History

The ASAM had a been a dream project of Varuna Sriraya since 2019 but due to less micronations from South Asia, the plan could not take its actual form until August 2020. It was on 22 August 2020, the leaders of the State of Vishwamitra and the Micronation of the AVR discussed on the potential establishment of the organization. Eventually, on 25 August 2020, the two leaders signed the establishment document of the association and declared it's foundation on the official Twitter accounts of the two nations.

Objectives

The organization was established to serve the following purposes:

  • Unite all micronations based in South Asia.
  • Promote peace, harmony and unity among all members.
  • Promote cultural, heritage and tradition of South Asia and the member-nations at all platforms.
  • Represent as a united bloc at all international platforms.

Relations with other organizations

Grand Unified Micronational

Conference of Santiago

The Association of South Asian Micronations and the Conference of Santiago shares a strong bond of friendship and amity. The Protocol of Quinta Velha was signed between the members of the two organizations which establishes special relation between the state members of the Conference of Santiago and the Association of South Asian Micronations. It was signed on the background of the signing of the treaty of mutual recognition signed between Karnia-Ruthenia and Vishwamitra, where the partnership was strengthened through the institutionalization of our dialogue, considerable change has taken place on both countries. Furthermore, the attendance of King Arthur II of Ebenthal as a guest invitee at the 2021 ASAM Radiator summit held on 30 January 2021 where he expressed the strong desire of the establishment of a special bond between the two organizations with a view to improve relations between the micronations of America and Asia. With his view, the Chairman Varuna Sriraya of Vishwamitra in a formal communication with Oscar I, Emperor-King of Karnia-Ruthenia conveyed the idea which culminated with the signing of the protocol between the two organizations.

Requirements for membership

Full membership

The following are the requirements that a nation must have in order to be a full member of the organization.

  • Must be based in South Asia (in any of the following macronations - India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka & Maldives)
  • Must have existed for not less than a month.
  • Must not be imaginary or fictional.
  • Must not be at war with any other micronation.
  • Must have a stable government and population.

A nation having met all the above-mentioned criteria shall be eligible for full membership in the organization.

Observership

The following are the criteria for observership

  • Must have a territory/colony in South Asia (in any of the following macronations - India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka & Maldives)
  • Must be a nation based in Asia (not necessary if fulfilling point no.1 of observership.)
  • Must not be imaginary or fictional.
  • Must not be at war or disputes with any other micronation.
  • Must have a stable government and population.

Structure

Chairman of the Association of South Asian Micronations

The Chairman of the Association of South Asian Micronations is the executive leader and chief administrative officer of the Association of South Asian Micronations. Akin to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the chairperson is the most senior of the two recognised leaders of the ASAM, with the office taking precedence over all other political appointments and positions in the organisation. The chair exercises a wide range of powers within the organisation including having direct control over member states and their representatives, with the vast majority of their powers being technical and administrative. The chair is the presiding officer of the Quorum of Members, serving as a the speaker for that chamber, and exercising many of the powers usually vested in the speaker of a legislative chamber.

The office of the chairman was established with the foundation of the organization on 25 August 2020 as the "President of the ASAM", however on 12 December, the office of the President was replaced by that of the chairman. The chairman is elected for a term of one year and can re-elected for unlimited number of times. The current and first Chairman of ASAM is Varuna Sriraya of Vishwamitra, who has been into office since 25 August 2020 and was officially elected on 12 December 2020.

Vice President of the Association of South Asian Micronations

The Vice President of ASAM is the second highest position of leadership in the organization. The organization is mandated to have eight vice-presidents, each representing the national blocs. The Presidents of the national blocs serve as the vice-presidents of the organization. The vice-presidents are entrusted to represent their blocs in all meetings of the organization. The senior-most vice-president shall be the First Vice-president and shall fill-in vacancy of the President, if situation arises. Currently, the organization has only one vice-president, who is the President of the Indian national bloc. However the Rashtradhyaksh of Vishwamitra also serves as the de facto leader of the Indian bloc.
