A prime ministerial election was held on 11 June 2024 to elect the 7th Prime Minister of Imruland. Incumbent Prime Minister Ishtiak Mahfuz Abdullah had announced not to participate in the election. Public Administration Minister Mohammad Noyon won the election defeating Local Government Minister Sri Loknath Mondol Mithun by 3 votes.[1][2]
Background
The term of Prime Minister Ishtiak Mahfuz Abdullah would end on 14 June 2024. There is no political parties in Imruland. All had to contest as an independent candidate. The Constitution of Imruland has given the power of arranging election to the Constitution Drafting Committee led by Governor.
Electoral system
The Prime Minister is elected by an indirect election by the members of parliament as per Article 27 of the Constitution of Imruland. Voters cannot be less than 9 and not more than 20. The voters would be selected by the members of the Imruland Constitution Drafting Committee.
Schedule
The schedule of the election was announced by Governor Showib Ahmmed on 7 June 2024 during an unofficial session of the Parliament of Imruland. He announced to hold elections on June 11, 2024.[3][4]

Security
The government took necessary security measures to ensure the free, fair and peaceful conduct of the elections. Campaigning of all the candidates were completed without a hitch. No untoward incidents were reported anywhere. Ballot boxes were sent through tight security to all polling centres. 9 platoons of the Border Guard of Imruland (BGI) and Imruland Armed Force were deployed in each center. and a large amount of police has also been deployed. Imruland Intelligence Agency (IIA) members in plain clothes had stepped up their patrols. No untoward situation has arisen so far and if it does, the Police, Army and BGI will jointly deal with it. Speaker Muzahidul Islam's Dekchi forces are also jointly patroling with government forces as private forces.[6]
Result
The final result of the elections was announced by Governor Showib Ahmmed at 10.45am on 12 June.

Aftermath
Governor Showib Ahmmed, Prime Minister Ishtiak Mahfuz Abdullah, Speaker Muzahidul Islam, Chief Justice Sheikh Mizan, and defeated candidate Sri Loknath Mondol Mithun congratulated Mohammad Noyon shortly after the announcement of the result.[1] Though the power transfer was scheduled for 14 June, there was a possibility of delay in power transfer for starting peace talks with the Imruland Lords Association, a banned party of Imruland. The then government was planning to send a peace proposal to the association to unite the association and Imruland.[1] However, the power transfer was held on the predetermined time[7][8] and the negotiation was failed.[9]
International reaction
- Vishwamitra: Rashtradhyaksh Varuna Sriraya commended Imruland on the successful conclusion of the elections, stating that the event stands as a testament to the shared belief of the two nations in the principles of democracy and the enduring strength of their respective democratic institutions.[10]
