Republic of Imruland (Bengali: প্রজাতান্ত্রিক ইম্রুল্যান্ড) was a micronation established in Bangladesh. It was created on 16 July 2022 by Showib Ahmmed to pay tribute to the Bangladeshi cricketer Imrul Kayes who is currently serving as the King of the Kingdom of Imruland. It is the predecessor state of Imruland.
Imruland declared their independence on 16 July 2022 and executives were appointed after two days. The Parliament of Imruland was established on the day of declaration of independence. The first official government was formed on September 2022. The Republic of Imruland was succeeded by the Republic Kingdom of Imruland on 23 December 2022.
History
Imruland declared their independence on 16 July 2022. A small cold war was occured after the declaration. Imrul Kayes was appointed as the president of the country on 18 July where the co-founder Sobuj Hossain was made prime minister. Main founder Showib Ahmmed took the post of deputy prime minister and speaker of the parliament. The first official government of the country was formed on 30 September 2022. Imruland was transformed from republic to constitutional monarchy on 23 December 2022 and succeeded by the Republic Kingdom of Imruland.
The Republic of Imruland faced political crisis on 13 November 2022 when the then Deputy Prime Minister Shams Chomsky Rafi resigned from his post on a televised speech. He made a political party named Imruland National Party (INP) that was banned by the government and was declared a rebel group. A state of emergency was also declared. The ban was lifted after an agreement between the government and the party. The chairman of the party Shams Chomsky Rafi was appointed as the Leader of The Opposition. He was banned from the parliament and exiled after two days of the appointment for the allegation of secret conspiracy against the government.
Interim Government
Imruland was jointly ruled by the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister from the establishment. No official government was formed during this period. The 2022 Imruland interim government was formed on 30 September 2022. This was the first official government of Imruland. A new post named Vice President was created and founder Showib Ahmmed was appointed on this post. Vice President exercised the executive power from that day. Showib Ahmmed, Shams Chomsky Rafi, and Fokhrul Sazzad served as vice president as well as head of the interim government in several times.
Government and politics
The Republic of Imruland was a republic under President Imrul Kayes. The main leader was Prime Minister Sobuj Hossain until the formation of official government on 30 September 2022. The country was ruled by vice president from the formation of the government. The country had a parliament named the Parliament of Imruland. Creating any political party was prohibited and no political activities were allowed. Elections were also prohibited to appoint new leader.
