The Chief of Defence Staff is the head and first-in-command of the Imruland Armed Forces. It is the highest ranking officer to currently serve in the armed forces. Although the King is the commander-in-chief and Governor is the deputy commander-in-chief of the Armed Force constitutionally, the Government of Imruland de facto provides direction of the Armed Forces through the Ministry of Defence in accordance with the Chief of the Defence Staff. He serves as the sole head of all three forces of the Armed Force - Imruland Army, Imruland Navy, and Imruland Air Force. The Chief of Defence Staff is appointed by the Prime Minister on the recommendation of Defence Minister.
The current Chief of Defence Staff is General Amir Hamja, who was appointed on the post on 16 August 2024 by Prime Minister Mohammad Noyon.
History
The post was first introduced on 20 July 2022 but was abolished on 23 December 2022 with the abolition of the 2022 Imruland interim government as well as the Republic of Imruland. The Defence Minister served as the Chief of Defence Staff ex officio till 16 August 2024. The position was re-established on 16 August 2024 by Prime Minister Mohammad Noyon.
Role
The Chief of Defence Staff gives operational directives to the Imruland Armed Forces through the service chiefs and reports to the Commander-in-Chief and Deputy Commander-in-Chief with administrative supervision of the Defence Minister. He formulates and executes policies, programmes towards the highest attainment of national security and operational competence of the Armed Forces namely; the Army, Navy and Air Force. The Chief of Defence Staff serves in the rank of a state minister. He sets strategy for defence, including the future development of the Armed Forces with the minister's direction and conducts current operation.
