The 2023 Imrulian prime ministerial election was scheduled to take place on 18 December 2023 to elect the 5th Prime Minister of Imruland. However, nominations closed at 8 PM on 17 December and Nihal Ahmed was the only candidate. Nihal was thus officially elected as the country's 5th prime minister as he was unopposed.

Background

The term of the incumbent Prime Minister Safat Zareef Hassan would end on 18 December 2023. Governor Showib Ahmmed declared the starting of election according to the Constitution of Imruland. It was the first election after the third amendment of the constitution. Prime Minister Zareef did not show his interest for re-running. The only candidate to submit nomination paper was Nihal Ahmed. He won the election unopposed. He is the first and only person to win an election in Imruland unopposed.

Electoral system

The Prime Minister is elected by an indirect election by the members of parliament as per Article 27 of the Constitution of Imruland. Voters cannot be less than 9 and not more than 20. The voters would be selected by the members of the Constitution Drafting Committee.

Aftermath

Governor Showib Ahmmed and Prime Minister Safat Zareef Hassan congratulated Nihal Ahmed to win the election. The power was transferred to the elected Prime Minister on 19 December 2023.
