The Vancouver Island territorial dispute was a territorial dispute that occurred from 29 April to 21 July 2021. It was mainly disputed between the Dominion of West Canada, the Greater Cascadian Republic, the Nexan Republic,[1] and the Dominion of Vancouver Island, until the dissolution of West Canada in July of that year. Peace treaties between the remaining parties were negotiated in late 2021 and early 2022.

Background

On 28 April 2021, rising tensions between the Dominion of Vancouver Island and Dominion of West Canada[2] led to the Commonwealth of British Dominions making a statement on 30 April 2021 calling the Vancouver Island government "too unfit",[3] formalizing the then mostly unrecognized claim on the island by the Dominion of West Canada. This action led to the Dominion of Vancouver Island and the Greater Cascadian Republic to attempt to intervene claiming themselves as the correct claimants and owner of Vancouver Island.

On 1 May 2021, the Basileus of the Hellenistic Empire of Cimbrun contacted the Governor-General of West Canada, acting on the behalf of the Nexan Republic.[4] The Basileus attempted to work out a deal with the Governor-General to grant the Nexan Republic the island in exchange for Nexan recognition of West Canada. The Governor-General denied the deal alongside the Prime Minister, with a joint statement:

"The territory of Vancouver Island is intrinsically linked to the people and culture of West Canada. To give it up would be to give up a part of our heritage. Alongside that, there are West Canadian citizens residing in Vancouver Island, citizens of which we are responsible for and accountable to, we simply cannot hand them over to you. Our claims of Vancouver Island date back to our foundation, and the Crown of the British Commonwealth's goes back to 1843. It is simply not in our cards to give up or relent Vancouver Island. We lessened our claim during the reign of the Dominion of Vancouver Island, considering that if either of us were in control the same Head of State was in control regardless, but with the dissolution of the Vancouver Island Dominion, we cannot allow the Crown Territory to fall into foreign hands. We appreciate your attempt to communicate with us on this matter, but we have to decline your attempt on changing hands of the territory, there's simply too much at stake."

Communal People's Republic of Wamong 5 May 2021 The President of Wamong, Harold Duighan, declared his government's support for the VISSR's claim on Vancouver Island, citing that, from his knowledge, the VISSR had control over the island in 2019 despite the Nexan Republic's 2015 claim. He also stated that he would support his fellow "Communist comrades" in their "fights against Imperialists like the West Canadians and their Dominion".
