Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights in Sancratosia, referred to locally as Gender and Sexual Diversities (GSD)[a] rights, are recognized as among the most progressive globally, ensuring equal rights for all individuals regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
The age of consent is set at 16 years old for all individuals, irrespective of sexual orientation. However, individuals aged 16 and 17 cannot consent if there exists a relationship of trust, authority, or dependency with the other party. The legal framework of Sancratosia is structured to uphold equal rights, providing protections and legal recourse against discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
LGBT activism is legal and actively supported by the State and the Sovereign Princess herself, who is transgender and an advocate for LGBT rights. The government of Sancratosia promotes a culture of inclusion and actively works towards advancing the rights of LGBT individuals within the principality.
Sancratosia participates in the annual observation of the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia on 17 May each year.[1] This international day serves to raise awareness about discrimination and violence experienced by LGBT communities worldwide, emphasizing the principality's commitment to combating prejudice and promoting equality.
Law regarding same-sex sexual activity
Same-sex sexual activity has never been criminalized in Sancratosia. The age of consent is set at 16 years old, except when there exists a relationship of trust, authority, or dependency with the other individual, in which case the age of consent is 18.
Recognition of same-sex relationships
The Civil Code of Sancratosia uses gender-neutral language, ensuring that same-sex couples enjoy the same legal rights and recognition as heterosexual couples. There are no distinctions made based on sexual orientation in matters concerning relationships and partnerships.
Transgender rights
Transgender individuals in Sancratosia have the right to legally change their gender and name without requiring surgical procedures or judicial approval. The principality upholds self-identification of gender identity and expression, respecting individuals' desire to keep such information private. Amendments to the Registry of Civil Status can be easily processed through direct communication with the Municipality of Sancratosia, the administrative body responsible for civil registry affairs.
GAHTⓘ and GASⓘ are permitted in Sancratosia following the Standards of Care for the Health of Transgender and Gender Diverse People established by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). GAHT is authorized from age 14, while GAS is authorized from age 16, providing necessary medical support for transgender individuals in their gender transition process.
Protection against discrimination
Sancratosia provides robust legal protections against all forms of discrimination, explicitly safeguarding individuals from discrimination based on "gender identity and expression" as well as "sexual orientation". These protections are enshrined in law to ensure equality and prevent discrimination in all aspects of public and private life within the principality.[2]
