The Public Force of Sancratosia (Lingua Franca Nova: Forte Publica de Sancratosia) serves as the military force of the Principality of Sancratosia. Established by Sovereign Ordinance no 114 on 29 November 2022, the Public Force operates without conscription.[1] It operates semi-independently under the administrative oversight of the Ministry of Territory within the Department of Protection.
Its branches are the Company of the Princely Guards and the Brigade of the Princely Firefighters.
Structure
The Public Force comprises two main branches:
- Company of the Princely Guards
- Brigade of the Princely Firefighters
These branches function as full-time militarized armed corps, sharing a unified hierarchy with identical ranks and grades.
Command
The Public Force is jointly commanded by the Commandant of the Public Force (Lingua Franca Nova: Comandor de la Forte Publica), who holds the rank of colonel but is referred to as "commandant" during their tenure. This position is currently vacant. Each branch is headed by a Chief of the Corps (Lingua Franca Nova: Xef de corpo), who typically holds the rank of colonel or lieutenant colonel.
Ministry of Territory
The Minister of Territory, appointed by the Sovereign Princess of Sancratosia, oversees both policing and military activities through the Department of Protection. However, the Constitution specifies that the Minister of State is primarily responsible for the Public Force, particularly regarding the authorization of troop deployments.
Branches

Uniforms and equipment
In an effort to reduce costs and streamline procurement, both branches share most of the same uniforms and equipment, with minor differences to suit their specific duties. Service members are responsible for supplying and maintaining their uniforms and equipment according to Public Force guidelines.
Uniforms
The uniforms are categorized into three orders of dress:
- Ceremonial dress: Available in winter and summer forms.[a]
- Service dress: The most commonly worn uniform in public.
- Operational dress: Suitable for daily wear.
Authorized headgear includes the beret, ballcap, tuque, and balaclava, with the ballcap being the most commonly worn. The beret is typically worn during parades and ceremonies, while the tuque and balaclava are generally used in winter.
Equipment
Reflecting its peaceful and defensive nature, the Public Force primarily maintains emergency preparedness tools and equipment. Members of the Company of the Princely Guards and the Brigade of the Princely Firefighters each carry a specialized axe, representing their respective roles and depicted on their emblems.
Symbols
The primary symbol of the Public Force is a silver bugle, historically used as a military signal device. This symbol represents the readiness, discipline, and peaceful nature of the Public Force and is featured on the coat of arms, flag, emblem, and the Medal of the Public Force.
