Alessandro Rosas (Duque de Caxias, Brazil, 28 February 1998) is a Brazilian-born Ebenthaler politician and theoretician, founder and president of the Republican Party and former Minister of the Interior and Peer of the Realm in Ebenthal's former unicameral parliament. He is historically the person to have held a ministry for the shortest time in Ebenthal, for just 6 days. A controversial politician, Alessandro began his political career in the Conservative Party in 2018 and created the Republican Party in response to the Mateusian Crisis in 2019. His Republican political performance, however, was thwarted twice by the central government's ban on his party, and Alessandro alone was able to return to politics legally in March 2021.

Biography

Early life

Alessandro Maria de Rosas was born in Duque de Caxias, a satelite city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, to a middle class family. He is the older of two other siblings. During his childhood, the family moved to Rio de Janeiro and he attended the Tagore School, a public school, and later moved to the Baronesa School, a private one, to do his high school education. He graduated from school in 2015. In 2018 he enrolled at Castelo Branco University, where his interest in politics cultivated in his teens led him to study political science.

Politics

Early politics

Alessandro engaged in Ebenthali politics when he joined the Conservative Party and was appointed as Peer of the Realm for Gillisburgh, formely called Arturia, by High King Arthur I. From beggining Alessandro was openly favorable to the installation of a republic in Ebenthal, but refrained in conservative politics. He was also forced to accept the noble title of Baron of Rosas (after refusing that of Count) in order to continue in politics. When High King Mateus I assumed the throne and appointed a new Grand Vizier, the Count of Lahad, he in turn appointed Alessandro as his Minister of the Kingdom. In the brief time he served as Minister of the Kingdom, Alessandro was obliged to help to implement the structural changes carried out by the Lahad government under strict orders from the High King, but secretly sabotaged some of these implementations and leaked the orders it received to the Moderate Party and to the Tribune of Truth.

Mateusian crisis

It was not long before the King and the Grand Vizier showed their intention to turn Ebenthal into a moralistic autocracy. Alessandro, who had already disagreed with the government's attitudes, called it "evidence of monarchical misrule", which resulted not only in his resignation from the government, but in the removal of his citizenship. It was not long before the King and the Grand Vizier showed their intention to turn Ebenthal into a moralistic autocracy. Alessandro, who had already been disagreeing with the government's attitudes, called it "evidence of monarchical misrule", which resulted in his resignation from the government. In response and taking advantage of the critical situation in national politics, Alessandro founded the Republican Party to advance his ideals. The government refused to register his party and the King revoked his citizenship and declared him persona non grata. Nevertheless, due to the circumstance in which most of the political class was against the attitudes of the King and his puppet cabinet, Alessandro's banishment decree was ignored and he continued to act politically in the shadows, recruiting discontents with the monarchy into his party.

Alessandro continued to work alongside new members of his party, still unregistered, and alongside other politicians and legal officials against the authoritarianism of the crown until King Mateus I was overthrown on 27 September 2019. When the Tribune of Truth named Raphael Sousa, President of the Moderate Party, as Regent of Ebenthal on September 29, he nullified the decree of Mateus I, restoring Alessandro's citizenship and making the Republican Party's registration official. On the occasion, he relinquished his baronial title.

Restoration of citizenship and party registry

Although Alessandro and Raphael had worked together during the Mateusian Crisis, immediately after the Republican Party's registration, it aligned itself with the Worker's Party as a way of attracting the Republican elements of that party. During this period, the party reached its largest formation, with 7 members, 2 of them in the national parliament. This is thanks to the absence of a monarch and the apparent failure of the regency to find a claimant to the throne of Ebenthal, which gave hope to Alessandro and the radical republicans and which ended up convincing other politicians and civilians that a republic was inevitable, or was at least a practical solution to the situation of a "kingdom without a king". Republicans and Worker's formed a cohesive allied base in opposition to the moderate government, while the Conservative Party regrouped.

Republican prohibition

In 29 December 2019 the Regent Raphael Sousa finally found someone who would accept the crown of Ebenthal, and Arthur II, former King of Roschfallen, was raised to the throne. A fervent monarchist and anti-Republican, one of Arthur II's first acts was to revoke the Republican Party's registration and outlaw republicanism in the country. He, however, did not harm the civil and political rights of Alessandro or any member of the party, nor did he punish them for continuing to openly profess republicanism, despite the illegality of the act.

As during the Mateusian crisis, Alessandro ignored the royal decree and continued to rally his party, even though it was illegal. He was, however, for this reason, prevented from participating in national politics on an official basis, and spent most of his time complaining about his condition and criticizing the monarchy and the lack of action by governments to reverse the decree that prohibited the Republican Party to officially exist, what he called the "crown shit".

Return to legality

On 8 March 2021, with the passage of the Ebenthal's Bicameral Act and the rise of the Worker's Party to power, the king's powers were diminished in a compromise and the Republican Party returned to legality, something the Worker's Party had been fighting for since the beginning of 2021, with support at last from the Moderate Party. Alessandro again allied with the Worker's Party and has since worked to introduce Republican politicians into national politics.

In 8 September 2021 Alessandro was elected member of the House of Councillors by Malmünd, becoming the first openly republican politician ever enrolled in the national legislature. After his term, he lost the re-election in 12 October 2022.
