The sovereign princess (Lingua Franca Nova: Prinsesa Suprema) or sovereign prince (Lingua Franca Nova: Prinse Suprema) of Sancratosia serves as the monarch and head of state of the Principality of Sancratosia.
Currently reigning is Princess Cloe of the House of Sancratosia, who became the first sovereign of Sancratosia upon ascending to the throne on 1 December 2021.
Powers of the Sovereign Princess
The Powers of the Sovereign Princess in Sancratosia encompass significant roles across the political landscape of the principality.
Defined by the Constitution, the sovereign's powers are integral to the governance structure of Sancratosia, despite the presence of a separation of powers. In the realm of executive authority, the sovereign holds the prerogative to veto laws and the Government Council remains accountable to them. Within the legislative domain, the sovereign initiates proposed laws, subject to modification and adoption by the National Council. Judicially, all decisions are made in the sovereign's name, emphasizing their pivotal role in the judiciary.
Additionally, the sovereign serves as the principal representative of Sancratosia in international affairs, holds the fons honorum and shares responsibility with the National Council for constitutional revisions.
Princess Cloe, upon assuming the throne on 2 December 2021, enacted a Sovereign Ordinance which temporarily conferred absolute powers upon herself, necessitating monthly reviews of this emergency measure. Subsequently, Sovereign Ordinance no 56, adopted on 22 April 2022, eliminated the requirement for monthly renewals, delegating the review of emergency measures to the State Council.[1]
Titles and styles
The official style of the sovereign of Sancratosia is "Sovereign Highness" (Lingua Franca Nova: Sua Alita Suprema). This style is distinctive to Sancratosia due to the absence of a direct translation for the term "serene" in Lingua Franca Nova, which is a common style among sovereign princes and princesses.
The complete titles and styles of the current sovereign are, in order of precedence:
- Sovereign Princess of the Principality of Sancratosia
- Duchess of Ganso
- Duchess of Siboleta
- Marquess of Monoroca[a]
- Countess of Anserisa
- Countess of Andorinoes
- Countess of Pirsonia
- Countess of Laurensia e Teritorios
- Viscountess of Lupulo
- Viscountess of Colie
- Viscountess of Mercurio, Maio, Talior e Diacon
In official correspondence, the pronouns referring to the sovereign are always capitalized. The use of the pronouns "We/Our" is preferred over "I/My". This convention emphasizes the sovereign's representation of the state and aligns with traditional monarchical etiquette.
