The Movement for the Representation of Foreign Minority (Portuguese: Movimento pela Representação da Minoria Estrangeira, Swedish: Rörelse för Representation av Utländska Minoriteter), often simply called Movement and identified by the acronym MR, a Ebenthaler political party. Its primary aim is to represent the interests of the non-Brazilian Ebenthalers, which account for 34.4% of Ebenthaler subjects. In this capacity, the party does not follow an official ideological thought, but its members are often identified as social democrats and pro-parliamentarianism. Furthermore, the party defends the value of Ebenthal's national identity as a multi-ethnic and plural state.
History
The origins of the Representation Movement can be traced back to the political activity of the Swedish-born Rupert Ruschel, 1st Baron of Sommerlath, who became an Ebenthal politician in 2022. Then a member of the House of Aristocrats, Rupert was able to pass a law in the Ebenthaler parliament recognizing Swedish as a minority language; as per the census, 3% of Ebenthalers were native speakers of Swedish. Soon after, Rupert attempted to create the Nordic Party to represent the Scandinavian and Germanic-European population, to no success. Later that year he joined the New Democrats and was appointed Prime Minister. However, after just over five months in power, Rupert resigned the premiership and founded the Nordic Party, later renamed the Swedish Party.
The founding of the Swedish Party, however, was seen as a threat of national division between citizens of Brazilian origin and those of foreign, i.e. non-Brazilian, origin, leading to the Swedish Crisis,[1] which was fueled by the combative stance of the National Party. However, even with the fall of the National Party cabinet and the rise of the more moderate New Democrats to power, pressure over the Swedes' issue intensified, which led King Arthur II to intervene directly, dissolving the Swedish Party and establishing a special seat to represent the Swedish minority in parliament; the only constituency that does not represent a territory of Ebenthal, but an ethnic group.
Despite the dissolution of the Swedish Party, however, it achieved one of the goals set out at its founding, attracting more Swedes into Ebenthaler politics. Rupert Ruschel remained in the House of Aristocrats—which became non-partisan—while Lukas Degermark was elected by the House of Councillors (Ebenthal) as the first representative of the Swedish minority in the lower house. Nevertheless, this compromise brought to light the political underrepresentation of non-Brazilian Ebenthalers, with members of other nationality groups demanding political participation. Capitalizing on this, on 8 July 2024, Lukas Degermark founded the Movement for the Representation of the Foreign Minority—allegedly under the auspices of Rupert Ruschel.
