Passport of Marienbourg.

The foreign relations of Marienbourg are carried out under the joint prerogative of the Sovereign and the government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. All the diplomatic relations treaties must be signed by the Sovereign in order to enter into force under the Minister of Foreign Affairs's advice. Marienbourg distinguishes two types of diplomatic relations, formal, which are obtained via treaty, and informal, specified by documents of common micronational organizations. All formal relations must be established with the signing of a treaty of mutual recognition, friendship and cooperation or any other form of diplomatic relations treaty provided by either by the government of Marienbourg or the nation with whom, the relations are being sought.

Marienbourg currently adopts a quasi-isolationist foreign policy, seeking to establish and maintain diplomatic relations mainly with micronations from the Brazilian sector and a few micronations identified as potential partners by its main allies, Ebenthal, with which the country lives in a personanl union, and Karnia-Ruthenia. Marienbourg is a member of the Micronational Trade Organization and has extensive relations with the administration of the Conference of Santiago, an organization in which it hopes to participate in the near future.

Foreign policy

Marienbourg maintains a foreign policy based on the principles of non-interventionism and international cooperation. The state has as a principle the recognition of the right of self-determination and therefore automatically recognizes all micronations that fit the traditional definition of micronations, except those cited to the contrary, as sovereign states enjoying full rights. Marienbourg is a signatory of the Union Against Micronational War and hence does not encourange micronational wars and has always expressed its strong stance against it. However, as part of the principle of self-determination, Marienbourg recognizes the right to engage in conflict, if necessary, in order to ensure national institutional and territorial defence.

Marienbourg fully adheres to the terms and conditions laid forth by Treaty of Persenburg, the Wrythe Convention and the Montediszamble Convention in handling matters related to its foreign affairs and have entered into relations with only those nations which respect the terms of the aforementioned treaties, especially regarding false claims within micronationalism, simulationism and geofiction. Furthermore, Marienbourg does not enter into or maintain diplomatic relations with countries that have laws that violate human rights, such as LGBT rights, basic animal rights, environmental protection laws, or countries that adopt as state ideology the fascism and strands.

It was the cornerstone for the creation of the Brazilian sector in early 2020.
  • Marienbourg became a signatory of the Wrythe Convention upon formal establishment of the independent sovereign government in 9 January 2023 following ratification of the terms and conditions of the convention. The Wrythe Convention is an international treaty which condemns sockpuppeting, identity theft, and false claims within micronationalism. Signatories to the Convention pledge to not enter into relations with any entities engaged in fabrications and falsehoods, and by signing the treaty reserve the right to suspend or revoke recognition of any entities found to have engaged in such behaviour.
  • Marienbourg became a signatory of the Montediszamble Convention upon formal establishment of the independent sovereign government in 9 January 2023 following ratification of the terms and conditions of the convention. The convention condemns the attacks on freedom of expression, the attempts to implement a cancel culture in micronationalism, the practice of shunning and publicly shaming other micronationalists over political and religious views or personal disagreements, the usage of personal insults in intermicronational discourse and the violation of copyright.
  • Marienbourg became a signatory of the Union Against Micronational War in 21 February 2023 following ratification of the terms and conditions of the convention. The goal of the Union Against Micronational War is neutrality in any micronational conflict. The government of Marienbourg, however, reserves for itself the right to engage in self-defense warfare when its territory or national institutions are threatened.
