Victor Yang (born 6 June 2004) is a Brazilian-born Ebenthaler and Marienbourger politician who has served as Archchancellor of Ebenthal since 15 August 2024. Son of Chinese immigrants, Yang became an Ebenthaler citizen in 2023 and soon joined the country's politics as Minister of the Environment, temporarily replacing the Count of Grzebuła before being replaced by Lukas Degermark, who invited him to join the Movement for the Representation of Foreign Minorities. Since then, Yang has campaigned for the participation of non-Brazilians in the political process. Alongside his political career, Yang is a college business student.
Biography
Early life and family
Victor Yang was born on 6 June 2004, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His parents are natives of Hechi, Guangxi, in the People's Republic of China. Coming from a family of miners, they immigrated to Brazil in 1996 to work as traders of low-cost Chinese products in the SAARA district, in Rio de Janeiro. Victor has an older brother, Paulo Yang (born 1999). Although his family followed traditional Chinese religious traditions, Victor was baptized in a Catholic church shortly after his birth. During his childhood, Victor and his family moved frequently, having lived in several neighborhoods in the northern part of Rio de Janeiro, until in 2012 the family settled permanently in an apartment in downtown.
Education
Despite the Yang family's frequent changes of neighborhood, Victor studied at only two schools, starting his student life at the Francisco Jobim Municipal School, and later studying at the Sarah Kubitschek State School, where he completed high school in 2019. In 2020 Yang was accepted into the Rio de Janeiro State University, where he is currently studying business administration out of the desire to help his family to manage their business.
Politics
In October 2023, after being introduced to the micronation by a fellow citizen, Yang had his citizenship application approved by the Bureau of Immigration and Civil Registration and became a citizen of Ebenthal. As soon as he became an Ebenthaler, political agents tried to co-opt him. Still without a party, in November 2023 Yang accepted an invitation from Archchancellor Bernardo Barcelos to take over the Environment Ministerial portfolio on an interim basis, until the New Democrats found an ideal replacement within the party or if Yang accepted the invitation to join the party. However, despite taking over the portfolio, Yang was secretly in negotiations with Lukas Degermark and Oskar Andersen, of the Movement, who advocated expanding the representation and participation of non-Brazilians in Ebenthaler politics, an agenda with which Yang identified. On 22 May 2024 Yang officially joined the Movement, and on 25 May he was dismissed from the environment portfolio.
Archchancellor
Victor was elected a member of the House of Councillors for Erzfelsen in the general election of 30–31 July 2024. With a majority of 7 seats in the Konkrëse, the National Party was called upon to form a new government after a year of the New Democrats in power. Over the next few days, a loose alliance was formed between the New Democrats, with 5 seats, and the Movemente, with 4, to bring them to power, blocking the Nationals' government. However, in order to accept the alliance—which would notably primarily benefit the New Democrats, bringing them back to power—the Movement's Chairman, Lukas Degermak, demanded the position of Archchancellor for his party, leaving key portfolios to the New Democrats (who would still have a majority over the Movement, anyway). Thus, on 15 August 2024, New Democrats and Movement formed a parliamentary coalition totaling 9 seats, removing the National Party after just 16 days in power.
In the alliance agreement, the New Democrats reportedly argued that a non-Brazilian foreigner at the head of government would be unpopular, and, in addition to the issue of the uncertain status of Lukas Degermark—in relation to the creation of the special autonomous region of Degermark—the Movement agreed to nominate Victor Yang for archchancellorship.
