The Distinguished and Long Service Medal (Hindi: विशिष्ट और दीर्घ सेवा पदक, IAST: Vishisth aur Dirgh Seva Padak) is the highest state medal conferred by the State of Vishwamitra preceding immediately after the Royal Vishwamitran Chain. The medal was constituted on 6 April 2022 by Rashtradhyaksh Varuna Sriraya, only a week prior to the Crystal Jubilee anniversary of the nation. The medal is conferrable upon both citizens and foreigners in order to recognize their displaying of highest contributions and dedications and loyalty towards Vishwamitra and its people.

Grades, precedence and insignia

Grades and precedence

The Distinguished and Long Service Medal is conferred in a single grade, however there are separate insignias on basis of service. The medal is conferred on individuals for their long and outstanding services to the nation. It ranks below the Royal Vishwamitran Chain but above all other state medals.

The medal with three rosettes is conferred on individuals who have depicted long and unfailing level of commitment and dedication for more than 12 years; medal with two rosettes is conferred on individuals for service of more than 6 years; medal with one rosette for those who have served for more than 3 year, while the medal without any rosette is conferred for continuous service of more than a year.

The medal is conferred in the following versions:

  • 1st Class or Sri Utama Vishisth-saha-Dirgh Seva Padak - S.U.D.S.
  • 2nd Class or Sri Prathama Vishisth-saha-Dirgh Seva Padak - S.P.D.S.
  • 3rd Class or Utama Vishisth-saha-Dirgh Seva Padak - U.V.D.S.
  • 4th Class or Prathama Vishisth-saha-Dirgh Seva Padak - P.V.D.S.

Insignia

The insignia of the Distinguished and Long Service Medal consist of a medallion hung on a ribbon which is dark maroon in colour and has five vertical stripes in white. The medallion of a diamond engraved design inspired from a Thai medallion.
