The Most Distinguished Order of Sahamitra (Hindi: अति विशिष्ट दर्ज़ह सहमित्र, IAST: Ati Vishisth Darjah Sahamitra) is the fifth and junior-most order of chivalry of Vishwamitra ranking immediately below the Royal Vishwamitran Order of Merit. It was created on 13 August 2023 by Rashtradhyaksh Dhrubajyoti Roy through a gazette notification.
The Order of Sahamitra is conferred on eminent foreign individuals, personalities, heads of state and government, politicians, civil servants and diplomats for their extraordinary contributions to the diplomatic relations with Vishwamitra and has replaced the now-dissolved Order of Diplomatic Service Merit. The order is conferred upon a foreign head of state as a diplomatic present or gift soon after the formal signing of diplomatic treaties marking the establishment of relations with nations.
Grades
The Rashtradhyaksh being the fons honorum of all the federal orders and decorations is at the apex of the order as the sovereign. The Minister of External Affairs is the ex-officio chancellor of the order.
The order has three grades:
- Grand Companion or Sri Utama Sahamitra - S.S.M.
- Great Companion or Sri Prathama Sahamitra - S.P.M.
- Companion or Prathama Sahamitra - P.S.M.
The Grand Companions are entitled to bear the pre-nominal honorific style of Mitra Sri.
Criteria
- The highest grade of Grand Companion or Sri Utama Sahamitra (S.S.M.) is conferred solely on foreign heads of state and in exceptional cases on heads of government and personalities of the highest esteem in recognition of their post valuable contributions as leaders of ally and friendly countries.
- The second grade of Great Companion or Sri Prathama Sahamitra (S.P.M.) is conferred on foreign heads of government, ministers of foreign affairs and other ministers, and in exceptional cases to personalities of high esteem in recognition of their services to the diplomatic affairs of Vishwamitra.
- The lowest grade of Companion or Prathama Sahamitra (P.S.M.) is conferred on personalities, diplomats and other officials of foreign national governments in recognition of their services to the diplomatic affairs of Vishwamitra.
Insignia

The insignia of the Order of Sahamitra comprises of:
- Grand Companion: It is awarded in a set of breast star, a badge and a yellow silk sash with green stripes on both ends with a red central stripe charged with a smaller white stripe in its middle. It is worn by the recipients from the right shoulder to left waist with the breast star worn on the left below the chest.
- Great Companion: It is awarded in a set of breast star and a badge and a necklet which is worn around the neck. The ribbon of the order is the same as the Grand Companion.
- Companion: It is awarded in a necklet which is the same as that of the Great Companion grade.
