Appointer | Emperor James on the advice of the First Minister Rt. Hon. Jack MP |
The Ministry of Justice is a government department in the Commonwealth of Essexia, and a key department in the Cabinet of Essexia. It is responsible for managing the bureaucracy of the Judiciary, convicts and detainees and ensuring the legislation passed by the Parliament of Essexia is legal and constitutional. It is headed by the Justice Minister, who is currently Rt. Hon. Terri MP.
The Justice Ministry was previously responsible for acting as the Judiciary, and members of the department would act as Judges or Lawyers when necessary. However, following the Judicial Establishment Act 2020, the Judiciary was made independent of the Cabinet and able to license lay personnel, such as lawyers and judges (Through the Bar).
List of Junior Departments
The Ministerial Reform Act 2019 established a set of departments/Junior Ministries under the MoJ to help it cope with an increasing work load. These were:
- Department of the Courts
- Department of Prisons and Probation
- Department of Civil Justice
However, after the passing of the Judicial Establishment Act 2020, a number of these departments became defunct or had significantly less power.
