The Minister of Law, Justice and Human Rights (Hindi: विधि, न्याय एवं मानवाधिकार मंत्री) is a minister of the cabinet of Vishwamitra and the head of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights in the government of Vishwamitra. The position was created following the creation of the "Ministry of Legal Affairs" on 10 July 2016 and Bishnu Chetry was appointed as the first minister in the third ministry of prime minister Varuna Sriraya. The current minister is Arsal Abbas Mirza who has been in office since 29 March 2024 and is also the longest-serving minister in the ministry.

The Minister of Law, Justice and Human Rights is assisted by the Minister of State for Law, Justice and Human Rights. The current minister of state is Eugene Smith who has been in office since 3 October 2024.

History of office

The Ministers in the ministry have used various official titles and names. These are:

  • 10 July 2016 – 27 November 2016: Minister of Legal Affairs
  • 27 November 2016 – 15 June 2024: Minister of Law and Justice
  • 15 June 2024 – present: Minister of Law, Justice and Human Rights

All the ministers except for Anirban Phatowali (2016–2017) and Rajdeep Deka (2017) were ministers with cabinet rank, while Phatowali and Deka were ministers of state with independent charge. Phatowali was later re-appointed to the ministry as a cabinet rank minister.
