Prime Minister Farhaz Hazarika, who also held the charge of the ministry, renamed the ministry as Ministry of Nature and Environmental Resources on 22 November 2021 and on 3 January 2022, the ministry was merged with the Ministry of Health, Hygiene and the Swachhta Mission to form the Ministry of Nature, Health, Hygiene and the Swachhta Mission. The ministry was abolished on 17 March 2022.
