The Second Varuna Sriraya interim ministry was the interim council of ministers of Friends Society that was formed following the constitutional election of Supreme Leader Varuna Sriraya as the executive president by the parliament on 11 September 2018. The president of the council of ministers (head of government), Tanishkaa Patranabish who was serving in office since 14 May 2018, tendered her resignation from office soon after being confirmed as the Speaker of the National Assembly. President Sriraya decided to continue with his predecessor's cabinet until formally designating his own cabinet on 12 October 2018.
History
The Supreme Court declared the constitutional coup and its arrangements as unconstitutional on 9 September 2018 and authorized the parliament to elect a new head of state within two days. Varuna Sriraya, who was the supreme leader since the coup announced his candidature for the position of the president to be elected by the parliament on 11 September 2018. Hours ahead of the vote, he stepped down from office and Deputy Supreme Leader Anoushkaa Patranabish was appointed as the acting head of state and sworn-in into office by chief justice Klarissa Sriraya.
Under the dual guidance of the acting head of state and the chief justice, the parliament voted to elect Varuna Sriraya as the executive president and stipulated him three months to get popularly elected to office. Sriraya was sworn-in as the executive president on 11 September 2018. Soon after assuming office as president, he appointed Anoushkaa Patranabish as the vice-president, and Tanishkaa Patranabish as the speaker of the National Assembly. As the executive president, Sriraya was also the head of government but assumed said office on interim basis and announced a continuation in the council of ministers of his predecessor.
