Career
Arpan joined micronationalism along with his brother Arnab Deka in June 2015 at the persuasion of Varuna Sriraya who is a friend of his brother. Later that year, following the election of Klarissa Sriraya as the prime minister in the aftermath of the constitutional reforms, he was inducted to her ministry as Minister of State in the Sports on 6 December 2015 and continued to hold the same portfolio in the third ministry of Varuna Sriraya formed in April 2016. He resigned from the council of ministers on 10 July 2016 along with his brother ahead of the cabinet reshuffle. He was re-inducted in the council of ministers in October the same year as a minister of state in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and held the portfolio until December. He was appointed as minister of state in the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Cabinet Affairs in the fourth ministry of Varuna Sriraya formed in December 2016. He lost his ministerial berth after the resignation of prime minister Varuna Sriraya in April 2017.
In the unity government of prime minister Tanishkaa Patranabish formed in July 2017, he was re-appointed as Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting. Following Patranabish's resignation, he was appointed as Minister of State in the Ministry of Environment, Nature and Conservation in December that year under prime minister Varuna Sriraya, and later served as minister of state in the Ministry of Human Resource Development in March 2018. He was appointed as parliamentary secretary to the President of the Council of Ministers in May 2018 and served until October that year.
In January 2019, he was re-inducted into the council of ministers and appointed as Minister of State in the Ministry of Planning, and then moved to the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs only a week later. He received bigger responsibilities when he appointed as Minister of State for Defence in March 2019 in the fifth Tanishkaa Patranabish ministry along with the additional charge of the Ministry of Internal Security. In a cabinet reshuffle in June that year, he was moved to the Ministry of Home Affairs as minister of state. A month later, he was moved to the Ministry of Law and Justice and the Ministry of Public Administration. He also briefly served as Minister of State for External Affairs in September that year.
He was entrusted with further bigger responsibilities in October 2019 when was appointed as Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Culture, and then as Minister of State (Independent Charge) of National Security a month later. In wake of unrest in neighbouring regions, he was moved out of the Ministry of National Security and swapped portfolios with Community Development Minister Saikat Seal, thereby assuming the charge as Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Community Development on 9 December 2019. In January 2020, he was appointed as Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Inter-State Cooperation, and then served as Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Environment and Natural Resources in the caretaker ministry of prime minister Anoushkaa Patranabish in March that year. He then served as Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Sports and Youth Affairs in three simultaneous ministries between March and June 2020. He then also served as Minister of Public Security and Special Enterprises in the second Anoushkaa Patranabish ministry from June 2020 until January 2021.
After a political hiatus of more than three years, he returned to the political scene in June 2024 with his appointment as Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Environment and Natural Resources in the cabinet of Klarissa Sriraya along with the charge as Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security. In October 2024, he was promoted to cabinet rank and subsequently appointed as Minister of Social Development.
